I needed a hanky the other day and couldn’t be bothered to stand up (sore hip). I know that sometimes they go down the side of the sofa so I put my hand down there. Out came an embarrassing amount of fluff, a card holder full of cards that I don’t use much so hadn’t missed and various other things. I must check the rest of the sofa and chairs.

Passports not in the drawer I always keep them in. Turning the place upside down.
(134 Posts)Thought I would have a quick look to see the date of expiry on them/. We use them for id as we haven’t been abroad for quite awhile. Last time was about December /January time when renewing a bond at the building society. Now I am really careful about passports and would have put them back in drawer in the same place. Also I would have been placed them back in my handbag as soon as they were seen. Have had everything out, drawers, handbags looked everywhere. I found an envelope with a receipt for mine which shows the number and date of issue. However, my dh’s envelope probably contains the two missing passports! I looked in the phone bookas I write most things down and there were old passport numbers but not the new ones. This has never happened before. Will I be able to cancel dh’s passport without the number. I remember they were issued from two different offices so I hope the issue date will be the same as on my receipt. Just asking as my head is aching and I know I am supposed to report list passports as soon as possible.
I found a passport recently and quickly handed it in to the police hope you find yours soon otherwise get ordering yourself a new one
I have photos of the relevant pages of our passports, the children sent me pics of theirs too, just in case, all on the iPhone, or in a cloud somewhere!
Stressful situation. It is imperative to report lost passports as soon as possible. Even without a passport number, you can contact the passport issuing authorities and explain the situation. They may ask for other identifying information such as name, date of birth and passport issuance location to help you cancel your passport and avoid potential problems.
Thank you Moth62 and everyone else. So pleased you found your debit card. That must have been a real worry. I have now filled in a complaints form and had an acknowledgement with a request to fill more or less the same info but I’ve done it. I’ve been told it will be passed to the right department. I am going to have to apply again for dh’s so hope it goes right this time. Just hope the blue submit button works.
I still keep coming back to see if you’ve found them yet! What a hassle for you being charged twice etc. And they call all this online stuff progress. Just to say also that I lost my debit card, turned the place upside down, cancelled and got a new one. A few months later when I went to put in my winter coat, there was the old one in the pocket. I remembered then that I’d been out with my son and had just hastily shoved it into my pocket to rush off to do something else.
Haven't posted but have been following your sad story , I have prayed to St . Antony on your behalf. I am not religious but it does seem to work more often than not for me. I say " please St.Antony help me find my ......... When I do find the missing item I always thank him. Obviously he was not on top form re. Passports!
Now you have the stress of getting new ones , I do feel for you and understand the stress it has all caused. I sincerely hope the process is sorted soon in the meantime have another G&T! and try to relax. Good luck and keep us posted.
Hope it all sorts out.
🤞
Still following the saga 😂
Am going to reapply for dh at probably around 2am next week. Hope the system will be better at that time.
Oh! Dear. Hope not. They have definitely nabbed two amounts of £88.50 for mine. There is no evidence of an application for dh. Filled in a complaints form online with evidence that two requests for confirmation of identity were made with different references. 72 hours for a reply!!!!!!
Well now you’ve paid for new ones your old ones will appear…
MayBee. Sorry didn’t get it right. The least I can do is apologise.
Thank you so much Maybee. I can feel the karma surrounding me. Also Calendargirl and NotSpaghetti. You are so staunch to have kept up with it. Thank you.

Hello folks. I cancelled the passports as the frustration and stress was really getting to me. So that was easy. Then I set about the replacement progress. Got to the payment and it took the submit remained pale so thought it hadn’t gone through. Then up popped up the expected acknowledgement and a request to give them the person who could confirm that I was who I said I was. This was done and my friend told me she had filled it all in but had received two different emails with different references on them. The second one worked. However, looking at my credit card statement there are two pending payments 😏Now to confuse us all the more I had after doing mine set about doing dh’s but after paying had no acknowledgement. I thought the second payment must have been for his but the Passport office checked (chat line) and couldn’t find his application. Told me would have to do it again. I haven't as I still don’t know if I have been charged twice. Have to wait to see if they take two amounts and as I don’t know which one is the correct the saga continues. If anyone is still reading this I will be surprised and grateful!!!
Oh no. I had a nightmare of a time when I renewed my passport; it seems to be a bit of a lottery. It either goes smoothly or badly. I just found my Boots Advantage card after tearing the house apart for several days ( it drives me nuts when I lose something). It was under an envelope on a cupboard in the kitchen where I recharge my iPad. I’ve resolved to always put things back in their proper places in future, which, of course, I won’t do. I had it in my head that, when I found my card you would find your passport but it wasn’t to be. All I can say is I feel your pain and I’m sending good passport finding/renewing karma across the internet x
I’m still following, had also seen your other thread about the replacement issues!
Oh dear, it’s all such a hassle you can well do without.
Sending
(No help, I know, the passports would be more welcome!).
I am reading still... and have my fingers crossed for you.
🙄 what a saga!

A birth certificate does not have aphoto and many places as for photo ID.
I am involved in arranging Disclosure Scotland PVGs and they require three pieces of ID, one which must be photo ID. A birth certificate on its own is not sufficient.
A passport or driving licence is ideal.
I wouldn't cancel them yet. You have other means of identification. A birth certificate is surely a better means of identification and in some minor cases a bus pass.
I once ordered my holiday currency and couldn't find it anywhere when it was time to go so I had to buy some more.
I found it months later in the pages of a book which I had found boring and left on the shelf.
Something always turns up sooner or later in the most unlikely place.
So frustrating to 'lose' your passport. I once did this and turned the house upside down - the drawers were never so tidy by the time I had finished, but still no passport. Like you say - I always put the passport in the same place after a holiday - but obviously not this time. In the end I did get a new passport. Then doing a spring clean, moved a heavy vase that sat on a side table and there underneath the vase was the passport! I had not moved it before as very big and heavy and a 'family heirloom'! Why and how it found it's way there I will never know!
Lovetopaint037. Any luck? 🤞
Say a prayer to St. Anthony
