Paying by phone.

It’s irritating and also seems pointless.
Recently during my repeated and interminable conversations on my mobile with BT about Full Fibre Broadband, they would insist on texting me a security code (on the same phone of course) - I could have been anybody on any phone. What did that prove?

I assume Kitty means using her phone to tap and pay instead of a card.
I have noticed this problem increase recently. As long as you've unlocked your phone with a PIN/ fingerprint/face etc. just before tapping it's OK but if you're phone's been unlocked for a while the card reader asks you to verify its you.
I'm finding it easier to pay by card now but seem to be asked to enter a PIN more often.
We've got so used to tap and go that tightening of security that adds seconds to a transaction is very annoying.

But it's so random. As I said, it is often for silly amounts. I had to verify it was me for a carpark payment of £3.20 the other day. And my Waitrose one was more recently.

The problem I've had with the extra verification required is that while I was holding my phone over the machine, wondering why the payment wasn't working, I couldn't see the message that had appeared on the screen.
Eventually another lady in the queue spotted it and told me it was asking for my PIN 🙄

I made several pricey purchases using my phone while on holiday in Cornwall last week, then all of a sudden it asked me for my PIN when buying fresh fish!

Out of interest, has anyone tried paying by phone when abroad if I load money onto my banking app?

When my card was scammed some years ago it was a car park payment.
If anyone’s card is scammed the scammers will go for a small amount first.

I pay by my Apple watch all the time and DD who lives in the UK pays by hers all over Europe so no problem with watch / phone I think.
I love using it because I never have to search for my wrist. 😂
