Moving House Complications

We sold our house in May to a chap buying it as a wedding present for his daughter (allegedly).
After lots of hold-ups which I won't go into, we finally exchanged contracts on 26th Sept, with a completion date of 8th Oct decided upon by our buyer, to which we agreed.
Annoyingly, we still haven't completed (11th Oct) and are in complete limbo.
We've moved 250 miles so our furniture was loaded and arrived on 8th, we've had to put it in storage.

We are aware of what might happen going forwards but I just wondered if any other GN's had experienced any delay between exchange and completion and, more importantly, did you eventually complete and move ?

We are selling my aunt’s house as she is in care. Offer received in March, and accepted as estate agent said buyer had everything ready to go. Finally exchanged a month ago, but now there’s a delay as buyer hasn’t got mortgage sorted. Extremely frustrating as we accepted this offer as buyer wanted to move quickly. Aunt is very 98 and very frail.
I hope you manage to move soon 🤞🏻

We're in the same boat Jdot. We had two dates proposed for completion, the 4th and 11th of this month but nothing's happened despite everyone having signed their contracts.

We've moved out and bought our new home, our buyers are desperate to complete but their buyer who is currently renting decided last week there were 'a couple of points s/he wants clarifying' hmm.

Our buyer's have now proposed the 18th but if it doesn't done, we'll tell our solicitor that if completion hasn't happened by November 1st we're putting ours back on the market.

They're a lovely family and we feel mean but it will have been 4 months by then and our patience is wearing thin.

With only 3 of us in the chain we thought this was going to be plain sailing!!!

Had hoped that the contributors to this thread would have seen the one in House and Home** regarding all the stress of House moving that has been continuing since 2019.

Surely, once contracts have been signed, then there is a legal undertaking or else a large fine,,
