I might be late to the party but I have just caught up with the news about RR. Her CV is a work of fiction. She calls herself an Economist with 10 years experience.

She was working in the complaints dept somewhere and a few other lowly positions. Too tired right now to add more.

I think she should be sacked.

she has an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and worked for the Bank of England, that's more than many chancellors. The reason the Tory owned press is so cross is because wealthy people are being asked to pay more now and they don't like it. You can't have decent public services without money and many wealthy people have got away with minimal taxes for years so Labour are asking those with the 'broadest shoulders' to pay more, just like they said pre-election

Agreed.

I wonder what some posters definition of a “good” economist is? Perhaps they could give us an example from the last 14 years of Conservative government.

Mollygo Tue 19-Nov-24 13:20:54

Or even a good example from the previous Labour government. Remember, they were voted out because the great British public didn’t trust them. It took three elections to get them voted in again.

vegansrock Tue 19-Nov-24 13:31:43

No matter what government - I think those slagging off RR should give an example of a good economist we have had in the past- as they are obviously supremely qualified to call someone a bad one.

There are one or two on here who would make a better job of it.

David Lloyd George - bringing in old age pensions versus RR for stopping the WFP.
Comparison enough.

And at least show some compassion.

I know you have a personal grudge against Gordon Brown, Mollygo, but if it hadn't been for his and his chancellor's prompt action (which was commended around the world) in saving the banks during the global financial crisis a great many people would have found themselves suddenly extremely poor.

The nonsense that the tories campaigned on in 2010 was exactly that, utter nonsense. the economy had remained stable. And we got a decade of 'austerity' and declining public services from them. Which no tory chancellor since has tried to do anything about.

Austerity which the IMF (not the most radical of economic thinkers) said was wrong...

Mollygo Tue 19-Nov-24 15:43:59

I I know you always defend whatever labour does, but you could ask yourself about the problems, labour caused, Without rose Colored glasses on.
I don’t defend some of what the conservatives did, Just because they were conservative.

MaizieD Tue 19-Nov-24 16:29:52

In the context of this thread, Mollygo, I trust you note that I am being highly critical of Reeves.

Clearly you do not understand that the increased NI contributions to be paid by employers will have a massive impact on inflation! I can’t understand how people don’t understand this. You don’t need an Oxbridge degree to understand this simple fact. Add to that the increase in minimum wage - something I absolutely approve of - and we have a situation that will fuel inflation. This will not affect the wealthy so much because the wealthy can afford to weather inflation, but the poorest in society will be the most affected.

Poor people will be the most badly affected by the inflation that will be caused by the recent budget.

Wait till next summer, that’s when it will start, as the increased NI contributions feed through from next April.

You are correct madalene

There is a letter winging its way to No.11 signed by many large retailers.

It points out that the extra NI (more so than minimum wage) will have serious repercussions regarding investment, job losses and higher prices to the consumer.

None of the above are conducive for investment or Labour’s oft repeated soundbite grow the economy

Thank you Petra. This "story" also appeared on Mumsnet and was roundly debunked, including by people who worked with Rachel Reeves at the BofE.
Somebody suggested that there should be a separate forum for threads which are "boring politically motivated shit stirring".
I couldn't possibly comment. 😂

Why does RR attract so much shit stirring?
She's had a very shaky start. I think it all stems from the £22 million black hole speeches.

MissAdventure Tue 19-Nov-24 18:08:32

Because Rayner hasn't vrossed her legs recently, at a guess.

MissAdventure Tue 19-Nov-24 18:09:00

Or crossed them, even.

I love that Mamie, sums up threads like this perfectly, we should have a new category. .

madalene Tue 19-Nov-24 18:46:49

Haha, I don’t think Kemi Badenoch will be as interested in Rayner’s legs as some previous leaders of the Conservative Party grin

madalene Tue 19-Nov-24 18:49:27

Yes, we should have had a category like that a while ago when all threads were critical of BJ and other Conservatives. But now the boot’s on the other foot………

*Maybe some people think that it’s justified to sling mud at RR for her untruths and embroidered truths*

I have a 1st in psychology but I dont pretend to be a clinical psychologist. I have an MA and a Ph.D. in human computer interaction but that doesnt make me a programming ghuru.

If RR scores any more own goals all this will come back to haunt her. No pensioners, business owners, farmers etc wil be voting labour next time. But fear not, they will have the support of train drivers.

Is a clinical psycologist a protected title, I know economist isn't. Anyway she was an economist at the Bank of England so I don't know what the fuss is about.

Decided not to be lazy so googled my own question and yes clinical psychologist is a protected title so definitely best not to claim to be one if you aren't one.

Agree,, there’s always been an element of it - deliberate wind up posts. I don’t remember a time when it was always the same two or three people starting them until recently though.

Don’t be so rude!!

The truth is she changed her job title from Economist to Retail Banking on LinkdIn after people started querying her CV.

theworriedwell Tue 19-Nov-24 20:34:28

She's had more than one job. It really isn't that unusual.
