Transferring money from UK to Canada

My son and his family have lived in Canada for twelve years and in the past I've been able to transfer money to him via his UK bank account for birthday and Christmas presents.
My granddaughter is starting university in Ontario next year and we will need to transfer money from a trust fund to pay her fees and accomodation. Because she is not a UK resident she is not allowed to open a UK account and apparently my son will be forced to close his UK account next year as he is not longer resident in the UK.
Do any of you need to move money from the UK to a personal account in Canada and, if so, how is it done?

PayPal?

I had to move money from the UK to Françe, you can do it online, you’ll need their IBAN number, or there are apps you can use like Revolut or Wise - there are others.
It might be worth asking your bank to help.

We’ve always transferred money straight into our daughter’s bank account in New Zealand.

I am wondering why your son's UK bank account will be closed next year?

Oh I see. I just Googled . It seems some banks close the accounts of expats and some banks don't. I move money from my UK account to Canada via a money transfer company

I see WISE is not on that list but I've always used them without a problem. 🤞

Ilovecheese - I wouldn't be happy using PayPal for large sums of money

Paypal. My son has lived in Canada for 20 plus years and this is how we transfer funds to each other.

I have not sent money to Canada, but years ago did have to send money to a relation in the USA. I did through my bank, they were very helpful. If I remember there was a fee. I think the bank is safer, do not use Western Union. Just take your relatives bank details to your own bank and ask.

I regularly transfer money to Australia via Bank transfer. You just need the recipient's bank account details, then follow the instructions re online bank transfer. If you don't do online banking, call at your bank as I used to do years ago. The cashier will facilitate the payment for you.

Have a look at the online bank Revolut. I use it to transfer money to my son's account in New Zealand. My brother in Ireland has a Revolut acc too and it's really easy to transfer money between our accounts. You get a very good exchange rate too.
