I usually do mental adding up and having the rough sum ready and if they say something higher than with 2 pounds to what I calculated, I ask them

It bothers me that this tendancy to not take a receipt when paying is becoming more popular. How can you check you've not been overcharged or if you have to return something, you're left high and dry. I always ask for my receipt, it may not be environmentally friendly using more paper but I like to make sure I'm not being overcharged by tills which are not working right

Especially if you don’t have a carrier, I would feel like I was shop lifting

Poor you Astitchintime, some shop assistants seem to particularly enjoy humiliating customers, if their in a bit of a pickle for some unknown ,rather malicious reason! Both my husband & my son have developed a way of very politely putting them in their place.
I need to learn from them pronto. 😊

I’ve had this exact same thing happen to me. Oh, the kerfuffle when I challenged the staff to get it rectified………2 members of staff had to check the price on the display as well as checking the volume of the commodity that I bought……you’d think I was trying to rob the Bank of England!

I did get the charge corrected but did feel very uncomfortable.

Yes, my lovely DIL had an awful experience when she tried to return some school shoes as the stitching split after a couple of weeks. She was virtually accused of stealing them, and left on the verge of tears. At M & S of all places. I wish I’d been there!!

Oh, I have every loyalty card going. Ironically I have no loyalty to any store and am more than happy to accept all the deals linked to the cards.

The Boots card is one of the best for the 8 pence worth of points per £1 spent and the frequent offers, but I must say you’ve to check your receipt every time. Their system isn’t very reliable.

Tescos are murder for this- I’ve stopped shopping there as my receipt is usually wrong- then have to queue at customer services. The number of people who now refuse their receipt 😳

One of the joys of rural living is that you go shopping once a week and get it over and done with. I cannot be bothered with loyalty cards.

I absolute hate these loyalty cards. Does anyone actually find shopping a pleasure any more?

I don't see the point in some of the loyalty cards. They offer little.

The other thing about them is that the store has a complete record of what you have bought in the past, your spending habits, together with all your details.

Boots made so many "mistakes" with my loyalty card ( in store, in my presence) I've just given up using it.
