Bequests in your Will

I have been wondering what happens when you have left a bequest in your Will to say a cousin and then the cousin dies unexpectedly. What happens to that bequest, would it become null and void or would the amount be passed on to the family of that cousin on your death?

Unless the Testator instructs in their Will what should happen if a named beneficiary predeceases them, e.g. instructs that the bequest should pass to someone else, then it goes into the residuary estate of the Testator and passes to whoever benefits from that.

Oh thank you so much for that. That certainly puts my mind at rest, as it is what I hoped would happen. Thanks again.
