Never, ever ring a number back. Report as Spam? Contact the bank/the companies helpline. These people send random scam messages out and the idea is to get your phone number. If doubtful, block them.

Passwords are never provided in writing by a bank. They should be chosen and input appropriately by the consumer. Links sent via text message for financial issues should always be ignored. Scammers are successful because consumers feel compelled to respond immediately to every communication they receive. If you have questions, call the bank or financial institution directly. Don’t do anything else but call the usual, well established customer service number. Don’t click on links, don’t follow suspicious instructions.

I bank with Santander and have not received any such letter.
I am almost sure that’s a scam.

Whiff it’s risky letting the scammer know your phone number is valid, next time just forward the number to SPAM (7726).

Ring 159, goes to your banks fraud department.

Just to let those you bank with Santander there is a scam going about . I had text message.from Santander yesterday saying a payment of £79.99 was declined at M&S STORE and said to press N if not me and a phone number.

As I don't bank with Santander never have thought see where this goes plus M&S STORE in capitals was a red flag. Phoned the number as soon as he asked for my bank after telling him I don't bank with Santander he said they may be attached to them . I said no and phone went down so knew it was a scam.

I checked with my bank all was well..Found Santander's phone number and made them aware of this text what it said and the phone number it gave . They said they would deal with it but thanked me for letting them know .

I also bank with Santander, and that is somewhat odd. Check with the bank first, as it sounds like a scam to me.

Are the letters on Santander headed paper?
We bank with them but haven't had this.
Definitely check. Ring the number on your debit card.
(Just checked my card, the number's in tiny print at the top edge on the back. You might need to take a photo of it so you can zoom in 🙄)

I would double check this by ringing Santander customer service.
