Deed Store - Halifax

Just a heads up if this affects anyone. We’ve had a letter this morning to advise us that the Halifax Deed Store is no more! They are no longer offering Deed Store and that our Deeds will be returned to us and that the small balance outstanding (which was required to enable storage, will be paid off by them). I think Deeds are kept electronically by the Land Registry in any case, but obviously these are important documents to hold on to.

I moved house recently for the first time in 30 odd years. My solicitor informed me that there would be no paper copies of the house deeds and she emailed me a link I could use to view them on the land registry site.

It left me feeling unsettled while I mulled over all the “what ifs” if I somehow couldn’t access them online . I felt happier once I viewed them and photo copied the documents. They’re now stored in my filing box where my son and daughter will easily locate them when I pop my clogs.

Deeds are a thing of the past now, records are online via The Land Registry. When we paid off our mortgage on this house we applied for a copy of the deeds but they are very limited, not worth the money we paid for them.
