Accurate information on Legal, pensions and money threads

I agree ... which is why I never ask for advice where factual info is needed on a random forum like GN! I mean no one has a clue about who is giving the answers!

You wouldn't walk in to a legal office and ask advice from every staff member ...

There are several members on this site whose opinions and knowledge I respect. But would I take that advice as a cast iron guarantee that it’s correct, no I certainly wouldn’t.

There is one particular member, who is very well qualified to opine on legal matters. I’m sure there are others too.

Unless posters are currently working in their professional field (law, finance, health), it is likely that they will have out of date information. Laws, rules and regulations change frequently.

When anyone posts seriously flawed, potentially dangerous/ injurious "advice" on GN, GN are very receptive to an informed heads-up warning via "report", and very prompt at removing the problem.

I know some readers are suspicious of clicking on links but often there is a relevant Gov.uk link or link to Citizens Advice which could be used.

It's difficult to see how anyone can advise posters properly without knowing their full situation.
What is helpful maybe is to be pointed in the direction of organisations for help.
On the whole people on GN are very good at making it clear that they are only suggesting, or talking from experience.

Surely it's up to the poster asking for advice to decide whether or not to take any from a fellow Gransneter.

But time and time again we advise people to seek professional advice and direct them to appropriate web site

People do not deliberately give incorrect info. They believe what they say is correct. Also many people keep themselves up to date in their profession after they retire or work using their professional skills in the voluntary sector.

In my opinion it would be better to post on Ask a Gran if people want opinions or others’ experiences, and keep this particular board for factual information.
There are some knowledgeable posters who can help with enquiries and others of us well-versed in knowing where to signpost people to for accurate answers.

I assume most use the internet (Gov.uk)

I am constantly surprised by the number of people who are actually very unskilled at searching the i nternet for information.
