Click to Pay - Royal Bank

Email today tells me they're setting up Click to Pay on my Royal Bank debit card which will mean I can just click to pay (funnily enough) for online purchases instead of entering card details.

That's because my details will be saved somewhere and certain retailers will have a special relationship with the Royal Bank enabling the payment to happen.

I don't like the sound of it and will be cancelling that option.
I never use a debit card online anyway because, if hacked, it gives direct access to the current account.

This reminds me of what happened decades ago when banks notified customers that many of their standing orders had been converted into direct debits - so much more convenient, except then someone else controls it, not the customer, and no-one had been asked to agree to it.

I've just had an email about this too. I only used my master card for online purchases. I'll probably cancel this new option once they let me know it's set up.

Me too Aveline. I put all my spending (in person and online) on a credit card and only use my HBOS debit card to withdraw from an ATM.
