What do my fellow GNers think about the latest report from a Retirement group that a SINGLE retiree needs £46,400 to enjoy a comfortable retirement?
The SP is less than a quarter of that but some people have to live/survive on that.
I can’t remember now what the recommendation was for a moderate or the middle of the three groups were but I guess they were still high compared to the real picture.

This is the site for the figures. www.retirementlivingstandards.org.uk/details . Click for the detailed report and the figures are more nuanced than you suggest. They say that for a minimum standard, which does allow for one holiday a year is £13,700.

Their definition of 'comfortable' includes multiple foreign holidays and weekends away, spending £172 a week on food and £267 a week on 'social and cultural participation.

For the minimum income the figures are £62 a week on food, and £56 on social and cultural participation, so even the minimum level is based on being well above the poverty level.
