hello, are there any other local GNs out there?

matson Fri 06-Sept-13 19:36:23

Hi annegr maybe the spider heard the weather forecast and came in for sheltergrin it has been a dreadful day, I don't mind spiders, its flies I dislike!
I salute you with your on line shopping, you are braver than me.

annegr Thu 05-Sept-13 08:55:45

Why can't summer go on a lot longer? The forecast for tomorrow sounds awful.
My shopping turned up yesterday from Tesco. All nicely packed and expiry dates a long time ahead. However, in the course of the evening, I had a nasty shock and found a big, big spider in the kitchen sink. Maybe came in with the carrier bags? All spiders to me are big.big, by the way. Shopping for food on line is OK for the older person but it is quite technical and not to be under-estimated.

annegr Wed 04-Sept-13 09:18:54

Good morning. Just done a bit more of my on-line learning course and have already forgotten what ctri+click does. I will have to recap next time I go to the site.
Unless the adverse weather brings R back from caravan, I might have got it wrong and she probably won't be back until mid next week.Too late for Mon/Tues.
Do you think Guisborough might be OK ? We could have a look round the big book shop there and a rummage in the charity shops for books. There are also several food options. What do you think? It's still the 81, no avoiding that pitfall.
I'm having a home day today.Washed all the bedding for starters then when the grass dries, it's gardening time. Edging lawns and hoeing borders. I think today is the last sunny day for this week so it's literally "make hay whilst the sun shines."
Eldest son starts new job today-college for the blind in the Admin. He's worked there before on contract & likes the staff but this is a perm.F/T post. He's still my baby (at 51) Nothing ever alters that, does it? We worry over them right to the end.

matson Mon 02-Sept-13 17:00:46

Hi annegr, no problem about R coming with us, where ever we end up!
The 81 tends to disappear into that black hole near the bus station quite frequently!I.m eagerly awaiting your masterpiece, I,m sure you will enjoy it. take care. Sorry my other email was a bit of a jumble, technology, pain in the * .

annegr Mon 02-Sept-13 16:16:14

Fabulous morning! I loved the visit to the glass workshop and am quite excited by next week's venture into arts and crafts.
If we do decide to go to cinema, R will be at home for 2/3 wks before she goes to NZ.Is it OK if I ask her? Maybe there won't be anything on of interest but we can wait till it's worth the visit.
The bus did not come at lunchtime for me to come home so after 3/4 hr. I walked round to Morrisons and had lunch there. That was the 81- makes you wonder what holds them up. Doesn't matter to me but if someone has an appointment it's awful.

annegr Mon 02-Sept-13 08:27:42

Good morning, Beautiful day but a bit windy. I'm going to walk to the Beacon so will set off about 10.15.
I enjoyed the craft fair very much, so much effort went into all of it. I hope it was a financial success for those concerned. I'm pleased that I found some very appropriate presents, better than just a gift token.
See you later today.

matson Sun 01-Sept-13 18:52:56

Hi annegr, I hope you are refreshed after Fridays activities!smile. The vintage fare was better than anticipated, I went twice!
I will meet as arranged, the Beacon at 11am, see you soon.

annegr Sat 31-Aug-13 08:49:29

Yes, the potato famine was around the time that our register records go back to i.e. 1800's. That is why my family still hold on to this fragment of hearsay that the lady on my family tree from Cockermouth was an orphan, her parents died in the famine in Ireland. I have read several books on the subject which disturb me at a deep level. It's as though my genes know of their involvement.
I had a wonderful day out with grandson yesterday, Italian lunch and then beach and then my garden. He loves the novelty of going on the bus as well but not so keen if they happen to be late.Ah, the hard facts of life! Spent 10hrs in bed last night to recover - another hard fact of life.
I'm coming down to the fair towards lunchtime, first of all go to the bank. I might see you there or in the town. Catch up with you on Monday if not.

matson Wed 28-Aug-13 18:05:44

Hi annegr pleased to see you are embracing * the mantra * it was an enjoyable morning! To educate us further , the irish potato famine was 1845 to 1852, much earlier than I expected.
I will post a note on the main site, possibly see you Saturday at the vintage fair, keep pushing those buttonssmile x

annegr Wed 28-Aug-13 16:13:06

New Mantra- Go for it. Press the button!
I don't seem to know which other site to go on - will you do the other one, please, Matson?
For all the readers of this site, don't forget we would love to see you at the Beacon, Redcar Promenade, next Monday 2nd Sept. 11.00am for coffee.
I shall probably go to the vintage fair on Saturday. I need a good 80th.birthday card.
I enjoyed this morning's education but am quite worn out! Just thought I would do the reminder messages and now find I don't really know where to find the other site.confused

matson Tue 27-Aug-13 16:06:33

Hi Annegr, I hadn,t forgotten, its on my listsmile! I still haven,t looked at the site, hopefully I will have more time when the children return to school. The vintage fair is on this Saturday , in Coatham Memorial Hall, 10 - 4, my eldest granddaughter and I are going for a look.
Hopefully we will both be a little bit more enlighten this time tomorrow, I live in hope! see you tomorrow, take care .

annegr Tue 27-Aug-13 15:56:26

Just a quick reminder, Nanna Matson, that hopefully we are meeting for coffee at the Hotspot cafe tomorrow (Wed) at 10.30 in the cafe. If you can't make it, I shall still go and take my laptop. I have signed up for the site you showed me but really need a helping hand with this filing.

annegr Sun 25-Aug-13 08:36:56

Re Orchids. I rarely water them, rain or otherwise.I felt it would be a treat for the plant to get some nutrients (pollution?) It is now back on the kitchen windowledge after experiencing drowning yesterday.I know they don't like the cold because I once tried to over-winter one in the shed and it turned to black mush on it's first night.
I might need to lend the Monk out to my eldest son, he's devastated to find he made a mistake at work which is going to cost the company money to put right. What do you say apart from we are human and don't get everything right all the time. I know he will tear himself apart over it.

matson Sat 24-Aug-13 15:42:31

Forgot to ask, I was always taught not to use rain water on orchids, so I have always used cooled boiled water, so it obviously doesn,t matter as mine have been in flower for months ,so have you always used rain water? x

matson Sat 24-Aug-13 15:38:06

Hello annegr, its a very thought provoking book, I have read a couple of his books which are much in the same vain, and I think it boils down to - be kind - to yourself and others, life IS to short , take time as you do to appreciate nature, and friends and family. At the end of the day a Ferrari wont listen when your sad! I find each time you read them you take something different from them, I,m pleased you are enjoying it.
It was a monsoon last nightsmile no need to water the plants tonight!
take care.

annegr Sat 24-Aug-13 08:06:43

What are you all going to do today? Terrible rain and the storm last night.I don't know if grandson and family went camping, maybe they wouldn't appreciate a mobile phone call if they wanted "to get away from it all."
I've put a loaf of bread in the machine so have to stay in till 11 anyway. The orchid plant is sitting outside having a wash. It's flowered since last October and now gone into hibernation. It deserves some rainwater.
I need to re-read the Monk book, Matson, I don't think I will be passing it on just yet. There's a lot of Buddhist learning involved there. Also great emphasis on meditation. I was talking to a member of the family yesterday who was very concerned over her 50yr old son's pace of life and the demands made upon him by his family. Very much the theme of the book. It's no good giving your all if that's exactly how it turns out to be and it shortens your life.
Comments?

annegr Thu 22-Aug-13 19:08:55

Yes, the carrots are well worth trying like that. They remind me of the allotment I had - straight from the ground, pan to plate.Broad beans are absolutely a feast with a few new potatoes.
I am immersed in The Monk who sold his Ferrari.I have found from personal experience that life is better lived more simply. I shall probably end up walking round the town in my Buddhist robes (because I won't have anything else)

matson Thu 22-Aug-13 18:12:17

Nice to hear you are on the mend Yayajen I hope it continues to get better for yousmile, and look forward to meeting all soon. Annegr I just love your positivity, and the recipe for carrotsgrin, did they taste much nicer?

YaYaJen Thu 22-Aug-13 11:40:46

Thank you for thinking of me, early days yet for the local sites but hopefully will get busier pretty soon.

I love watering the garden too, soothing and satisfying and lots of fun when grandsons join in.

looking forward to visiting The Beacon and finally meeting you all.

annegr Thu 22-Aug-13 09:07:55

Glad to hear from you YaYaJen.We were only saying the other day over coffee that we hoped you felt a lot better. It was very nice for us here on the Mbro site to hear from Luckygem. smile
You will have heard about our infamous Beacon? It's not that bad really and the view and coffee are lovely.
I'm going to get the hosepipe out now, I love that job! Playing with water.
Have just written a consoling letter to eldest son.He feels awful leaving the job and people he's with for one with more money. At the end of the day, we have to survive financially and the old company have had the benefit of his skills for a while at a low rate of pay.

Oh ye of little faith. After next week's stint at the internet cafe, we should be qualified for a job with NASA.
Bought a new shaped plantpot today. I use them for little wildlife ponds and the other one was leaking. I thought at first it was a fox drinking out of it (there are foxes on the marshes nearby) but concluded I was wrong.
I cooked carrots a different way today.Don't laugh, I'm serious. I used organic carrots purposely - don't peel, just wash, and steam whole, not chopped or sliced. All the flavour and nutrients are preserved. I should be able to see in the dark pretty well shortly.

luckygem Wed 21-Aug-13 19:07:12

thanks for the welcome ..
i will keep in touch with you all just flipping through the forum at the moment

matson Wed 21-Aug-13 16:14:14

Keep in touch and we will work some way of recognizing each other before the day.
