Sorry, meant breathe, not breath. Must try harder with proof-reading.

Wheniwasyourage Sun 11-Dec-11 21:38:15

That's the trouble really, isn't it? Inside you feel young (but with more experience, of course) but people treat you as if you're knocking on a bit. As one who invigilates for the SQA exams and prelims I get some satisfaction during exam times when I meet some of the exam candidates in the early morning when they are delivering papers and I am running. You can see them thinking "How does she do that when she's so old?" which is often what I'm thinking myself (with "Why" instead of "How") but they don't know I'm thinking that, and I try very hard not to breath too heavily until they are out of earshot...

I'm 63 and have a travel pass which is great for going into Manchester on the Metrolink - I park outside a local station and step on the tram - what a bonus! In my head I am often 25!

Wheniwasyourage Sun 11-Dec-11 21:12:22

trishs, I've just acquired a bus pass, which I have yet to use, and a Senior Railcard, which I have used. Reaching 60 is not (quite) as bad as I had feared, although I see no signs of great wisdom and I wish my knees didn't hurt!

Carol Sun 11-Dec-11 16:54:32

I'll keep a look out. Mine is a black 3 door Merc, usually has a moping basset hound sat in the passenger seat, slobbering down the window. I meet ex-colleagues for lunch and a chat occasionally in Hoopers. Small world!

nanachrissy Sun 11-Dec-11 16:41:49

Annobel I have a bright red Yaris!! Hoopers is my downfall quite often! grin

Annobel Sun 11-Dec-11 16:22:03

carol, goodness knows why it has taken so long to construct our nice new 'shared space'scheme. I only hope it works once it is finished. A welcome relief will come when/if the Government is true to its commitment to finishing the Airport Eastern Ling Road, though that might take another decade... By the way, if you or nanachrissy see the scruffiest dark blue Yaris on the road, it's probably mine. I don't go to Wilmslow very much since a good friend had the bad taste to move to the South Coast! My DS1, in his youth, about 20 years ago, was head chef at Hoopers in Wilmslow.

trishs Sun 11-Dec-11 15:45:24

I'm in West Yorkshire, Leeds area. We have a 13 month old grandson and are expecting his sister to come along in the next few weeks smile

I keep wondering what our age range is. I'm guessing many are younger than me perhaps? I'm 64.

Carol Sun 11-Dec-11 15:33:59

Me too! We must all be driving past each other on a regular basis and not realise x

nanachrissy Sun 11-Dec-11 15:17:10

It's funny really, when I'm out and about, I often look at ladies of a "certain age" and wonder if they are gransnetters.
We definitely should have a badge or secret sign!! wink

nanachrissy Sun 11-Dec-11 15:13:32

Carol Annobel Starrygal I am in Wilmslow! So glad there are a few of us. I was beginning to feel quite lonely. grin

Carol Sun 11-Dec-11 14:10:00

Yes Annobel I have spent many a happy (not) half hour sat in the queue for the traffic lights at that crossroads in Poynton. I can't understand why they've been there so long.

riclorian Sun 11-Dec-11 13:50:27

I occasionally flick through this thread and notice that there are very few Hampshire girls around ( I do recall seeing one sometime ago ) so where are you all ? Let us southerners stand up and be counted !!

Annobel Sun 11-Dec-11 11:22:22

Poynton will look even better when the road works finally finish. There is a national 'award' for the most annoying road programme and guess which town won the 'golden cocne' this time! Yes, of course we did. A dubious distinction.

Carol Sun 11-Dec-11 11:17:26

Oooh! we have a Cheshire/South Manchester branch - I'm just outside Altrincham, near the airport. Poynton is looking very nice now the new Waitrose has been completed and there is a real village atmosphere with the pavement cafes and little shops all clustered together. Lymm is such a pretty place which I often visit for lunch and a wander.

syberia Sun 11-Dec-11 10:35:16

starrygal Lymm is really pretty. I have visited there with my daughter. she lives in Hebden Bridge.

starrygal Sun 11-Dec-11 10:23:59

Like you Annobel I think they are trying to push us out of Cheshire, but as we are currently part of Warrington, that might not be a bad thing!

Annobel Sat 10-Dec-11 16:06:22

Poynton - at the extreme edge of Cheshire, almost in Stockport which the Boundary Commission is trying to accomplish by pushing us into Hazel Grove constituency which they don't want and neither do we!

starrygal Sat 10-Dec-11 15:44:02

Annobel I live in Lymm. Where are you?

Annobel Fri 09-Dec-11 16:15:55

Hi starrygal - another member of the Cheshire Chapter of Gransnet! You can't be very far away from me, I think.

Cendrillon Fri 09-Dec-11 15:55:51

Hi Butternut. I, too, am in South West France and have also been here for 8 years .. I live near Le Bugue and am originally from Staffordshire. 2012 could be the year for starting a lunch group - say, GIF 'Grans in France' couldn't it? Don't you just love Gransnet?

canuck43 Thu 08-Dec-11 19:30:46

Revis I was born in Nottingham, we lived at Wilford Hill and moved to the southern slopes of Dartmoor 21 yrs ago. It's a lot safer here, very little crime.

starrygal Thu 08-Dec-11 17:22:54

I'm quite new to gransnet. I'm originally from Aberdeen, but started moving around as a teenager and never stopped! I've lived in various parts of Scotland, and spent 3 years in Germany, 6 years in Australia and 3 years in London. I've also lived in Oxfordshire. I'm currently living in a lovely village on the border of Cheshire/Greater Manchester.
