em, I was one of the first ever students in Abbotsford in 1958! I think it has merged with Chattan now. Apologies to non-St Andrean grans who won't have a clue what we're talking about. confused

gracesmum Sun 23-Oct-11 17:50:28

I have pm'd you em as I assume we are meant to maintain a level of anonymity on GN - this could be like the denouement of The Importance of Being Earnest!!
Where are you now then?

em Sun 23-Oct-11 17:42:51

You lived next door. I was in Abbotsford then!

gracesmum Sun 23-Oct-11 17:27:33

When were you there? we met in our first year (1966 ) all together aaaaaaaaaaaah!! On a recent visit a friend asked us before we set off "Were we off to see where Wills wooed Kate?" and I was proud to say "NO, where DH wooed me!" We both graduated in 1970 - him in Maths and me in French and German, then moved to London like so many of our friends. (PS I lived in Chattan)

Annobel Sun 23-Oct-11 16:00:25

Me too, gracesmum. St A was our family university too.

em Sun 23-Oct-11 15:48:05

Hi Gracesmum. I went to university in St Andrews as did my sister, who now lives in Kelso. The more I read this thread the more surprised I am with all the links we discover!

gracesmum Sun 23-Oct-11 15:29:44

Didn't read all the way through the many (!) posts - but I was born and brought up in the Scottish Borders, studied at St Andrews then went to London when I married. We lived there for 14 years, then moved to North Bucks to "let the children grow up in the country" (They hated it for the first couple of years, so that idea went down like the proverbial)
It can be lovely and is extremely convenient - London by fast train takes only 35 minutes , but if it's a Saturday night, count on about 1 1/2 hours! Milton Keynes is soulless but good shops and also now theatre . Reason for staying here? 2 DDs in London and 1 +SIL and GS in Birmingham, so we are about equidistant. But when asked where I am from, I don't know what to say! Where I was brought up? Where I live now?

gracesmum Sun 23-Oct-11 15:24:16

Hi Woody and Soupy - I'm near-ish -between Newport Pagnell and Olney!

My parents moved back to Weymouth after I left home and I still have connections there. Was there a couple of weeks ago mooching along the prom in glorious sunshine smile

Hi Revis nice to know I'm not on my own. Used to pass through Ruddington to get to John Lewis but now go to the Leicester one. The rest of the family go through Ruddington every other Saturday to watch Forest. We actually live in Barrow (upon Soar) having lived very near the centre of Loughborough for 15 or so years. We have one son living in the village, a daughter in Loughborough, one in Derby and the other in London. We also have a son living at home.

Hublady Mon 10-Oct-11 14:19:28

I'm near Bradford, West Yorkshire. Originally from Nottingham, but yes, Yorkshire gets into your heart.

Revis Sun 09-Oct-11 20:49:49

Hi "kittylester" I live just down the road from Loughborough in Ruddington. Son went to Loughborough University and DH worked with schools there for a few years. Still go to the market when I can and go for a meal regularly at Hoton, so all pretty close to you. I'm sure "Greenmossgiel" will not mind me telling you that she was born in Ruddington but now lives in Scotland. Small world!

Haven't worked this site out yet.

Born in Barnsley, went to university in Newcastle, lived in North Staffs, then various places in Hampshire, now spend a lot of time 'commuting' between the far south of England and the far north west of Scotland. I must be mad!

glammanana Fri 07-Oct-11 23:47:34

Clicked on to yours right away Bennan to find out what the Scottish connection must be! I've been really surprised at the numbers of grans on here who have a connection with Dundee. Are you willing to disclose more?

Bennan Fri 07-Oct-11 16:02:41

Born in Aberdeen, brought up in Dundee, taught in Edinburgh where met English husband, moved to Aylesbury, then overseas to Bahrain, Hong Kong, Oman and then Dubai. Returned to Uk and now live near Buckingham in North Bucks, rural, quiet and endlessly delightful. smile
