hello everyone, I'm a Cornish Maid, have lived in Devon, now in Bristol. Isn't life strange?

glassortwo Thu 19-May-11 09:31:50

gillieB you are very brave gliding.
I'm not very good with heights, when I was younger I used to get stuck on the bench when cleaning the top of the kitchen cupboards, the kids used to take the chair away and I would end up in a right state of panic. Infact out walking on Simonside years ago I had a panic attack because I had turned around on the very slight incline and saw how high I was, and Simonside is not high at all. But it seems to have calmed down as I can now climb 3 rungs up a ladder! grin

I was born and lived a large part pf my life in Londons east end
Inow live in Ilford Essex which is just outside the east end of Lomdon

harrigran Tue 17-May-11 13:04:55

Gliding over the Cheviots, just breathtaking. We used to do a lot of walking there when we were younger.

GillieB Tue 17-May-11 12:48:00

glassortwo and harrigran for my sixtieth birthday the children gave me a gliding voucher and I went up to Millfield, just north of Wooler, to the gliding club. What an experience it was, gliding high above the Cheviots! I didn't see any Romans but I did see a hill fort which I think was from the iron age.

When we first moved here lots of snow seemed to be the norm, but it had eased off until, as you say, the last couple of years. I had a replacement knee operation last October and the trouble I had just before Christmas trying to get to Hexham for physio.

As I said, though, it's such a wonderful place to live - I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

harrigran Tue 17-May-11 11:48:14

The beauty of Northumberland compensates for lack of warmth, one can always take holidays for a little sunshine. It must be attractive or the Romans would not have come wink

glassortwo Tue 17-May-11 11:46:30

GillyB we somethimes have a few days summer, but the last two winters have been wicked in Northumberland, our nearest neighbouring farm could not get out for days because of the snow. But still would not have anywhere else. It will be a while before we get moved in lots to do yet. Hope you enjoy Northumberland.

whitevanmand Tue 17-May-11 11:44:25

Centre of Norfolk - between Fakenham and Dereham - wonderful part of the country!

GillieB Tue 17-May-11 11:31:39

glassortwo - move up during the summer, we moved in February and then I spent the next few months waiting for spring to arrive. I had a friend from Northumberland when we lived in Berkshire - when she knew we were moving up she told me to throw away all my sleeveless dresses as I would never wear them again - she was right! The warmth is the one thing I miss from the south, but there are so many other things to compensate me, it's not a problem. Good luck with the move.

Biker gran logo would be amazing... can't warm to the present logo at all ... sorry gransnet .. but it's true!

glassortwo Mon 16-May-11 22:37:40

I think bikergran would be a good example of what our logo for GN should be striving towards.

milliej Mon 16-May-11 22:32:47

I'm a geordie but have lived in many many places.

Bikergran...thanks smile good for you! I rode a bike for years when we lived abroad but that was when I was in my 30's & 40's, wouldn't dream of it now I'm too old. Still drive a car but I know that my reactions aren't as fast as they used to be, been driving (oh did I say this!) for 43 years.

helshea Mon 16-May-11 22:19:10

I Have to agree - Northumberland is a beautiful part of the world.

glassortwo Mon 16-May-11 21:38:35

GillyB I think Northumberland is the most fantastic place in the world, we are in middle of a renovation in Northumberland andthink it it is heaven on earth, cant wait to get up there.

helshea Mon 16-May-11 21:14:15

Lancashire lass through and through

GillieB Mon 16-May-11 19:47:31

I was born in the Midlands and then moved to Essex and Berkshire before ending up in Northumberland 28 years ago. We live 10 miles outside Newcastle upon Tyne and wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Dordor Mon 16-May-11 19:38:45

Oh Suuze and grannies, I confess that I have only moved a mile from where I grew up - but I've lived in 4 different houses in the village (!), which is East of Norwich in Norfolk. No one has ever asked me to go anywhere else you see, and all my family is nearby so I'm quite happy really. And there are so many places to visit. Off to Edinburgh for the Fringe mid-August. Wonder if any other gransnetters will be there . . .

lili Mon 16-May-11 19:03:13

Originally from Manchester I've lived all over the UK and abroad, but now I'm living in a delightful old fashioned seaside town in Devon; surrounded by hills, with a river just 30 seconds from my front door. I have no plans to move from here any time soon. wink
