nanav123 we just had a meet up in Exeter. Perhaps you could come to the next one? Might be somewhere else, but in Devon. I'm upcountry, in Bideford, by the way!

Welcome, Seashore. I lived for some years near King's Lynn and a trip to Hunstanton was always a pleasure. I loved that part of the coast - Holme-next-the-sea was a special favourite. I would happily have stayed in Norfolk but ex's job brought us north. Enjoy Gransnet and do join in the threads.

Hi! I live on the east coast but south from you. Hunstanton, look for the 'Wash' on the map. I am new to Gransnet. I look forward to hearing from you. smile

Born in Liverpool and still miss it and the people but not the weather it's a tad warmer and little less rain (mostly) in Kent. It's nonsense that people are friendlier up north the people here are wonderful i'v made really good friendships here. I feel really lucky.

Tiggypiro, yes, I got the wrong houses. I was thinking of the ones further down opposite the school. I do know someone who lives just opposite the Bowes Museum. There are two houses there and then Spring Lodge further down where the Colonel used to live.

Re Gransnet NYorks - with so many other area names within the county (like Hambleton, Craven etc) it can get confusing - so Yorkshire & N East Gransnetters where are you all?

Just put your area and/or town on the local forum topic & a little bit about it and lets get Local rocking!

I am in Northallerton (North Yorkshire - Hambleton) a nice enough town but no outstanding attributes wink

Sorry Broomsticks - I didn't make myself very clear did I !
We played tennis in the grounds of the Museum. Were you thinking of Spring Lodge across the road from the Museum ? Our Girl Guide troop (?) kept our old army bell tents in a shed there and we practised putting them up in the field. They were huge and so damned heavy !
This is bringing back so many memories and the vast majority are so good !

When the government was talking about reducing the number of parliamentary seats, our seat would have been combined with Barnard Castle if they had had their way. It would have been the largest in the country and the most impossible to travel round for 6 months.
Our MP said she would not be able to see half her constituents for at least half the year.
It just shows that they have no idea about geography, not realising that the roads/dales are horizontal, not vertical. They wanted to link up Haltwhistle, Consett and Barnard Castle.

Which house Tiggypiro? It's split in two now. The tennis courts at the front of the school are gone. There are three houses there now. In fact I lived in one for a bit. There are courts round the back still I think.

My childhood home was directly opposite Bowes Museum on the Yorkshire side and I was born in Barney. The view from our kitchen was of the Museum and Barney school. We played tennis in the grounds - are the courts still there ? Saturday night ballroom dancing lessons in the wooden hut (long gone) of the YMCA in Newgate, live groups playing for dances in the Parish Hall and going home with ears ringing. I blame those dances for my tinnitus now!
I now live in Northallerton but completely missed anything about the meet-up last Saturday. My fault I'm sure. Hope to see you next time !
