Hi Everyone in Kent, I live in a village close to Sevenoaks, born a Londoner, Born and lived in North London until 1957 when my husband and I managed to put a deposit on our first home in Kent. Since the death of my husband I have llived in this village for the last eight years. I think I am getting to know the rest of the community!!!!! Most of the residents have been born and bred here so it takes a while to fit in. I`m getting there!

Hi NANNYMAGS. I have just recently moved to Ramsgate, but lived in Westgate and Broadstairs so know the area somewhat, and wondered if you knew of any social clubs in the area for "oldies". I am bored out of my tree as it can be a week or so without seeing anyone, except I find I am yakking to strangers whilst grocery shopping!!! I do, of course, keep in touch with the world via telephone. I am not in the best of health, so no long rambles, no long bus/train journeys, but I do need to socialize a little more. Would you please let me know if you have any suggestions/advice. Thank you.
Trish

No, Greatnan, the other way out of Kent is over - or under - the Channel grin.

Londoner, I'm so jealous I just love Tenterden.

I have just attended my grandson's wedding at St. Margaret's at Cliffe. I used to live in St. Margaret's Bay and I had forgotten how pretty the area is.
I have also lived in Bearsted, near Maidstone, and Rainham. My daughters lived in Ash and Shepherdswell. The problem I found in living in that corner of the UK is that you have to use the M2 or M20 to get out of it!

Click on "watch this thread" near the top of the page, then you can find any threads that you're watching by checking through the "watching" on the top bar just underneath "Gransnet Forums" - easy peasy, you'll soon get the hang of it and be using it frequently as you get more and more draw in to the addiction of GN. Welcome by the way!
I live in West Sussex although born and grew up in Kent, just south of Maidstone

Hi YatH, I live VERY close to Leeds Castle.

Also know Folkestone well.

Londoner Fri 03-Aug-12 16:38:58

Whoops, I should have said NORTH of Ashford. I must be feeling a bit nervous / trying to find my way around the site.

Londoner Fri 03-Aug-12 16:37:39

Hello everyone, I just joined a few minutes ago, so I'm a bit lost to say the least.

I live in Kent, in a village south of Ashford.

I lived in London until I was 31 and then hubby and me moved to Kent. Lived in Benenden, Rolvenden and Tenterden since we moved here nearly 40 years ago but have lived just outside Ashford for nearly 30 years now, so we're quite settled here in this village. At 68 the thought of moving again would sound like a nightmare.

I see some are from Herne Bay, Beltinge, Whitstable, Medway etc. etc. which are all quite "local" to us, about twenty minutes / half an hour's drive.

Bet I won't be able to find my way back to this page ! confused Hope I can, though so I'll give it a try.....

New to Gransnet and living in Midlands for 35 years but I'm a Maid of Kent (or is it Kentish Maid - can never remember which is which side of the river) and feel all nostalgic at hearing these places again. I grew up in village close to Leeds Castle (my dad used to do building repair work there for Lady Baillie and I often had the run of the private areas as a child).

Still miss being close enough to go down to the coast on Sunday afternoon for seafood tea - usually the stalls under arches at Folkestone. Anyone remember that part of town?

barbadosgan Sat 03-Mar-12 17:01:11

Used to live in Westerham and part own a shoe shop in Tunbridge Wells.
Retired to Barbados now!
