Can`t get to Grantham, can`t manage the trains anymore, or I would have loved to come Teetime. Afraid I`m limited to Boston these days.

I'm up for a coffee at Downtown (Grantham) if you're going although perhaps not this side of Christmas - too busy in there!!!

Hello Dizzydaisy, fancy a meet up in town for a coffee (or something), Oldrids, or perhaps somewhere a bit posher, but not many of those places in town though!

Burley House is also well worth a visit, just outside Stamford- the 'Castle' of Lord Burley, or William Cecil, advisor to Elisabeth the first. The Park, souvenir shop (excellent) and the Orangerie restaurant is free of charge- but it is worth paying to see the whole house and sculpture garden. Rockingham castle and garden are wonderful too, ans so are Cotton Manor Gardens (Northamptonshire actually). The lovely towns of nearby Rutland are great too. Oakham (lovely café at the back of the main Church, home-made cakes, great sandwiches, salads, etc and very friendly) - and of course Uppingham. Both great Market towns with mellow stone and Collyweston slate roofs.

We have a flat in Market Harborough - but we live in Switzerland most of the time. So have fun - I'd suggest meeting in Stamford at the George rather than Kettering lol. My favourite Lincolnshire location.

I`d love to bdo that Trish, I`m in town most Saturday mornings, otherwise I`m free either mornings or afternoons in the week, depending on what shift son is on, as I mind little grandson.

yes, "numberplease" you are right that the Battle of Britain memorial centre is still at Coningsby but its worth remembering "whitewave" that it is only open Monday - Friday & 10 - 4 (I think). They are definitely not open Saturdays/Sundays. Worth a visit tho'. I also agree Tattershall Castle is a good option. I'd love to meet up with you "numberplease" but I'm awaiting a hospital appt to come through - hope to hear this week or next about it & once I know we could have a coffee somewhere. Whitewave, despite what I said earlier about too many empty shops, I`d recommend Boston on a Wednesday, one of our market days, when the market is bigger. Tattershall castle is worth a visit, as is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby, they are still there, aren`t they Trish? Also the Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby, they`ve been working on getting a Lancaster bomber going again, it`s not flying yet, but does taxi along the runway. If you`re in Boston on an afternoon, I`d love to meet up for a cuppa!

I must be the only person (oops forgot DH him too) who loathes and detests those big greasy bricks called pork pies and Stilton - its hersesy here they are evrywhere. I saw a doctor on Supersize Superskinny putting the ingrediants together for pork pies incuded was a pigs tail, pigs cheek , loads oof very fat belly pork then more pork fat and thats not including the pastry.
Melton Mowbray itself is a nice old fashioned market town where people are pleasant and talk to you so I recommend it highly as a place to live - not much to do for visitors though lots of shops closing as part of Mr Camerons plan to regenerate Britain!!!!!!.Yes we have a Tory MP Alan Duncan - doesnt seem to do much.

Lucky you Trish, getting to see the planes take off from RAF Coningsby every day, I have to be satisfied with seeing them whizz over our house! Don`t know about loving Boston for shopping, there are too many empty shops these days.

Our Daughter lived in Melton Mowbray and worked for Samworth Brothers who own the pie shop in the town. Amazing pies, but not good for the diet.
