This is a preliminary enquiry. I should like to invite my Gransnet friends to lunch before I set off to New Zealand, which will be somewhere between 5 and 15 May. I live in Darlington which is relatively easy for North-eastern and east coast Scottish grannies to get to. West coast Scottish grannies would have a longer journey. I think you would have to do a train to Glasgow, then change for Edinburgh before the train to Darlington. Grannies who live in other parts of the country would be hugely welcome too.

I need a sort of ballpark figure so that I can book a place and arrange the catering. I was thinking some time towards the end of April. We can discuss exact dates so that those I particularly cherish don't get left out because of other commitments.

Is anyone up for this? Let me know or glass who is also helping with this plan and trying very hard to keep me in order.

Glass, gillybob, whoever Am I right in thinking that the 11.15 from Newcastle is the same train as the one all the Scottish grannies who are coming will be catching from Edinburgh Waverley? What time does it arrive in Darlington?

I suppose one major advantage to this meetup for me is that I am unlikely to end up in Berwick on Tweed. Not that there is anything wrong with Berwick; it's just a bit of a problem to be there if you thought you were travelling from Newcastle to Darlington.

Of course, the biggest advantage is seeing all of you. grin

Thanks glass, not sure if I'm going to book in advance - may just purchase on the day - but will catch the 11:15 from N'castle anyway.

Rail tickets booked. Coach E/1. I've decided to go for the 1720 with you lot. MrB said he'll pick me up from the station at this end at ten o'clock!

baubles Thu 07-Mar-13 14:01:51

DH & I may make an overnight of it and drive down. We have seen some of the area before, any recommendations welcome.

Looking forward to seeing everyone smile

Elegran Thu 07-Mar-13 13:07:07

Marelli, I don't think I have a specific seat booked! I shall dig out my ticket and the receipt and see.

absent Thu 07-Mar-13 12:56:08

soop You can leave it literally to the eleventh hour and still be included if you can manage it. I'll let you have details when I get round to letting everyone else know. One extra will not present any problem whatsoever. It would be delightful if you could make it but we'll all just have to see what date the hospital comes up with. [crossed finger emoticon again]

soop Thu 07-Mar-13 12:52:34

Twinkle Toes I shall do my best. From the west coast to Glasgow takes the bus three plus hours. From Glasgow to Edinburgh takes a further hour. Then there's the bit to Darlington. Perhaps when I've been "repaired" we could arrange another meet in Glasgow. smile

Marelli Thu 07-Mar-13 12:47:30

Elegran, which coach are you in? Gally and I are in E but not seated together.

Marelli Thu 07-Mar-13 12:45:36

I hope you can manage to come, soop! This is going to be so good! We'll get to meet nanaej, too - I don't know if any of the Scottish grans have met you, Nanaej? smile

soop Thu 07-Mar-13 11:55:32

Sadly, I canna join you lot, 'though I would love to. Am awaiting date for surgery. Hospital could confirm any time soon. Pissed off because I'm certain you'll have fun and I would have liked to wish absent Bon voyage. If I should get a date for May, say, I may come back to confirm that by hook or by crook I'll be there...smile

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 11:23:58

The 1030 from Waverley is the one I'm planning to get, but I'll need to get an earlier one back to Edinburgh because it's another two and a half hours westwards for me after that, and that's not including any waiting time.

Elegran Thu 07-Mar-13 11:00:37

This train is going to positively vibrate by the time we are all on board.

Terrific Bags I'm so pleased. grin
