This is a preliminary enquiry. I should like to invite my Gransnet friends to lunch before I set off to New Zealand, which will be somewhere between 5 and 15 May. I live in Darlington which is relatively easy for North-eastern and east coast Scottish grannies to get to. West coast Scottish grannies would have a longer journey. I think you would have to do a train to Glasgow, then change for Edinburgh before the train to Darlington. Grannies who live in other parts of the country would be hugely welcome too.

I need a sort of ballpark figure so that I can book a place and arrange the catering. I was thinking some time towards the end of April. We can discuss exact dates so that those I particularly cherish don't get left out because of other commitments.

Is anyone up for this? Let me know or glass who is also helping with this plan and trying very hard to keep me in order.

yaya personally its ok with me, but I can see that for some it can be distressing and innappropriate in work situations. I use my user name on Twitter and only ever post what I could say to someones face, but I am not in the position other GNetters are, and need to protect their anonoymity, sunshine

Marelli Mon 22-Apr-13 21:05:32

Thank you for doing that, YaYaJen. As baubles commented, GN can be looked on as a safe haven for us. No tags for me either, but photos are ok. smile

YaYaJen Mon 22-Apr-13 19:36:33

The photos I took are off facebook, I was maybe over enthusiastic sharing them, ...at any future meet-ups I will ask everyone there if they want to be in photos which would be shared on Gransnet N Yorks facebook page. Many people do have serious reasons to not be in the public view on facebook and that should be respected.

kittylester Mon 22-Apr-13 19:26:42

Ditto Ana

Ana Mon 22-Apr-13 19:23:27

I agree with baubles as well, although I'm not involved. If photos are put on FB, with GN usernames, then anyone who recognised a member could link them to their username and track their posts on Gransnet, if they were so inclined.

harrigran Mon 22-Apr-13 19:20:56

Good point baubles not a good idea to put anyone's name on facebook, if we wanted to be recognised we would use our real names on Gransnet.

baubles Mon 22-Apr-13 19:17:15

It was I who had the privacy issues. I've no objection to photographs being shared on Facebook but not tagged with my GNet user name. I would not be happy if my work colleagues were to see some of my posts on here, it could compromise my position. I often think of GNet as being a safe haven in times of need, I'm sure most of you will understand that.

nanaej Mon 22-Apr-13 17:39:56

Same for me..prefer no tag!

Bags Mon 22-Apr-13 14:05:47

Happy for the pics to be shared on Facebook. Prefer not to be tagged.

janeainsworth Mon 22-Apr-13 13:32:59

Happy to share the pics and be tagged.

YaYaJen Mon 22-Apr-13 13:02:49

Couldn't see any tags ....
ty Elegran

Elegran Mon 22-Apr-13 12:59:51

I have copied them to the Edinburgh Facebook page, Jen I had labelled them (just usernames) in the comments but have edited that out now.

Bags Mon 22-Apr-13 12:43:25

Can't you untag them?

YaYaJen Mon 22-Apr-13 12:38:37

Have taken the pics down from Facebook as it appears there are privacy issues as someone had been tagged with gransnet user name and real name.

If you are in any of the pics on the gransnet forum here

local.gransnet.com/forums/local_north_yorkshire_share_your_pics/1198041-Gransnet-meet-up

and you want it removed, send me a private message with details and I will remove it.

If you would like your pic on Gransnet facebook please also let me know ..

A big thanks from me too absent it was good to meet u and other virtual friends. Had a busy day in York & had to buy new charger for my phone which is why I am so late in thanking everyone for a day of good company and many laughs!

Granny23 Sun 21-Apr-13 23:39:56

So sorry to here about the ankle. After 3 incidents with the same ankle, I restrict myself to 'sensible' shoes outdoors. Are you remembering R.I.C.E.? that's:

Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate

Plus a couple of Asprins to reduce swelling and pain.

Hope it gets better quickly.

moomin Sun 21-Apr-13 22:15:00

gillybob if I walked anywhere in heels I'd have sprained both ankles! Oh, hang on, it was getting into the taxi!! Seriously though, hope the swelling goes down quickly - and that your DiL makes a speedy recovery flowers

Elegran Sun 21-Apr-13 21:00:36

You and yours are in the wars at the moment, gillybob I hope all goes well with you both.

Marelli Sun 21-Apr-13 20:59:45

gillybob! You poor thing! Of course it was the fault of the shoes...shock! Useless things!

gillybob Sun 21-Apr-13 20:55:19

So glad to hear your roof was still intact Glass .

Thank you agin all for good wishes sent to my DIL it is truly appreciated.

Sorry did not chance to say goodbye to you nanaej after twisting my ankle and getting into the taxi. My ankle is like the size of a house today! I blame the stupid shoes! Not the wine. hmm

glassortwo Sun 21-Apr-13 20:04:57

grin grin

Marelli Sun 21-Apr-13 19:58:02

All that fresh air up at the house will have done you the world of good, glass! winkgrin

glassortwo Sun 21-Apr-13 19:36:37

No I have not just surfaced grin I was up with the larks and up at the house just turned 9am which is a 35min drive, spent the day trimming the extension bedroom joists ... the roof was still in place smile

absent thank you so much for a truely amazing day, so good to see so many friends old and new. But I going to miss you once you are off on your travels.

nanaej I dont think I said goodbye to you once I had flagged the taxi down and jumped in, it was good putting a face to the name.

Not had time to look at the camera yet but will try to get the photos posted asap.
