My husband collapsed two days after we arrived in the UK for a holiday after Christmas. He ended up in ITU in an induced coma with so many tubes, wires etc it was scary. then no sooner had he been discharged (with appointments and an operation to look forward to) than I was hospitalised with a relapse in my recovery from two strokes last summer.

We decided that as we are under the watchful eye of consultants here now we should come back to live in the UK much to our daughter's relief. We still have a daughter living in France with her husband and children but they are some way from our house. Here we have lots of family and friends nearby.

We have settled in Bognor Regis, sussex, not a town we knew but are pleased with our choice of flat to rent for the time being and the proximity to everything we need. We will miss our home in France the friends we made and the lifestyle we had where everything was laidback. We have our daughter and her family to visit there so we will still get our fix!

Sorry you have had such a difficult time, Burgundy. So glad you have been able to move back and are getting good care and support from family and friends. The whole question of when / if to move back to the UK is one we spend a lot of time discussing and it is hard to know what to do. Glad it has worked OK for you.
Warmest good wishes to you both.

Hello, Burgundy - nice to see you again! What a rough time you have had, and what sensible decisions you've made. I hope all goes well for you and that things continue to improve.

Hi Burgundy that is a lot to cope with in such a short time, I hope it is all on the way up now and will continue that way.

I think it is a good idea to rent while you decide where you like and will be happy to settle. I understand some people do make a mistake in buying a house in a new are when they retire and regret it afterwards.

Welcome back

So sad to hear about all your misfortunes, Burgundy. Let's hope that they are over and that your new surroundings will bring you the peace and better health you deserve.

You have been through it, Burgundy - but welcome back and I hope you will stay healthy and be very happy back in the UK (Will you be renaming yourself Bognorgran) grin

Sounds as if you've had a really tough time Burgundy, it seems a very sensible option to come back "home" and I hope you settle well into life in Bognor, with the health of you both improving as soon as possible

harrigran Sat 02-Mar-13 12:03:25

Good to hear from you Burgundy I was just thinking about you yesterday because I hadn't seen you post for a while.

Good luck with your new start in life Burgundy, and all the best for your health. Thank goodness you were able to available yourself of the NHS, despite being away for quite some time. Pheew.

We still have a flat in the East Mids where we go back regularly, and if ever we had to move back to the UK, for whatever, reason, we would also be very positive about it, as we feel very comfortable either here or there. Enjoy and get better smile

Good luck to you Burgandy! Are you going to change your name to Bognor which will of course get shortened!
Actually I'm surprised no one ' s called me Gal yet? Perhaps because of my antiquity?hmm

granjura Sat 02-Mar-13 13:00:36

Ahaha and if you find a gold rope necklace on the beach in Bognor - it's mine. Lost it there on my first UK beach outing .... in June 1970 smile In fact if you give me the name of the local paper, i'd love to write a letter to explain what happened and offer a reward for return- as it had great sentimental value.

I did find a pair of dentures on the beach that day - any claimants?

Mishap Sat 02-Mar-13 13:14:20

Welcome back to the UK - hope that you settle well and enjoy your family nearby.

annodomini Sat 02-Mar-13 17:59:24

You don't mean to say that you kept those dentures, jura?

granjura Sat 02-Mar-13 18:00:21

No, I didn't smile

granjura Sat 02-Mar-13 18:00:46

But I've still got my gran's smile

annodomini Sat 02-Mar-13 18:41:54

Now that's what I call an heirloom, jura!

granjura Sat 02-Mar-13 18:48:58

It is indeed the whole plate is covered with 22 carat gold smile Can't decide whether to give it to the Dental School Museum or sell the gold to make a nice ring or something smile

Galen Sat 02-Mar-13 19:06:45

hmm

annodomini Sat 02-Mar-13 19:38:51

Wear them? grin

granjura Sat 02-Mar-13 19:54:01

Like her dresses, don't think they would fit. She was a very skinny socialite - and I am more peasant built. But we digress -

Welcome home BurgundyGran and get better soon you both.

Butty Sat 02-Mar-13 19:54:50
