Just seen your post Greatnan. Yes that's the one!! Apparently when Mum was little there was a farm near the house. I never went there so I don't know much about it. Both my grandads worked in cotton mills.

Nonniesusie - do you mean Cleggs Lane, Little Hulton? We moved from Salford to the new estate there when I was 13 and I met my ex husband at the Nevada skating rink. We bought our first house in Little Hulton before moving to Surrey.
My ex was a 'cow yed' i.e. from Westhoughton. The story was that a farmer told friends his cow had got its head stuck in a gate and the friends suggested using a saw, so he cut off the cow's head!
I used to teach at Lords Commercial college in 1962/63.
During the war, we were evacuated to Tottington and spent five very happy years there - whenever I visit my sister in Swinton, I take her back for a day out and it hasn't changed very much.

Its lovely to hear from everyone & hope we can meet up some time. I'm not fom Bolton, I grew up in Durham, but have lived here for 40 years and seen an incredible amount of building. I can remember wondering why they were creating such a huge car park at Middlebrook - now I would like to be able to find a place without driving in circles. I just hope we dont lose our town centre.
Has anyone had a look at the new local Bolton site?

I grew up in Hindley -just a bus ride away from Bolton. My first job ater Uni was at Salford Royal Hospital.I often went walking on the moors around Bolton
Hope we might meet at the next NW meetup.
I remember when many of the public buildings were black -
before the Clean Air Act.It was quite a shock to go back after they had been cleaned up.

I live in the far north of Scotland, but my mother and grandparents came from Bolton, my mother was born in a house in Lightburne Ave in 1908. I know little about my Bolton backround but feel affection for the place. Welcome to GN we are a friendly lot. cupcake
PS how envious I am that some of you are able to meet up for a blether, I think I am alone up here.

Welcome GinnyTonic. There are a few us around the Greater Manchester area and across the north-west, and every now and again we organise a meet-up for lunch and a chat. You would be most welcome to join us. I live in South Manchester, but have family in your area. Look forward to chatting to you smile
