Meet ups/where are you?

East Midlands (ish) meet-up anyone?

Started to feel really envious of everyone else meeting up so wondered if there was any mileage in trying to organise an East Mids meet-up? Not sure how many people live within striking distance.

We don't even have a 'local' GN in Leicestershire, Notts seem to have two people meeting and Derbyshire doesn't seem much better - so, is there anyone out there who fancies meeting somewhere in the East Mids.

We have fairly good rail links, lots of roads and even an airport! grin

It was a lovely afternoon and so nice to put faces to names and feel a truer connection. Events like yesterday's demand and generate trust in equal measure and one leaves with a stronger sense of what is good about human interaction.
I finally collected my DS from hospital at 11.15 pm and am going to spend today being his Mum in the true sense of the word!
Lovely to meet you Gracesmum; Kitty; Nightowl; Tegan and Trendyg. Here's to the next time. wine

I had a super time, thank you all. I used to be worried that meetups would be divisive. I've changed my mind - they are great. smile

Long live the psychic budgies! grin

I agree! I felt a little anxious beforehand about losing anonymity but am so glad I came and hope we can do it again very soon. A lovely way to pass the afternoon. smile

smilesmile That is brilliant news, specki - "nil carborundum" or something!

Hello, I'm here! I've driven up from South West France. I just decided that air traffic controllers weren't going to get the better of me.
So I'm taking my DS to Burton hospital late tomorrow morning and can get to the Thistle by about 1 pm hopefully. You all just get on with your lunch and I'll try to join you as soon as is humanly possible. smile

Tegan Thu 13-Jun-13 17:11:18

Which direction are you travelling from? I'm coming from Derby and if you're going that way I may come back on the bus with you..I'm not very good with buses; always worried I'll get on the wrong one. The shuttle bus is very good. When I first lived here I stood at the bus stop one day and everyone laughed at me..hardly any buses and the ones that did run didn't run after 6pm sad....

trendygran Thu 13-Jun-13 17:07:30

Should be able to make it ok as buses every half hour to Airport Terminal and the same to return. Hope to meet you all there!

Tegan Thu 13-Jun-13 10:53:39

12.30 trendy. I know they have a lot of shuttle buses that run from various places every half hour. Yes; we'll definately stick with the Thistle in case anyone decides to come at the last minute. If you pm one of us with more info there's a chance that someone could give you a lift back if you live en route.

trendygran Thu 13-Jun-13 09:53:20

Is the final decision to meet at the Thistle Hotel at EMA on Tuesday 18th ?
If so, what time are you planning? I can catch a bus to the airport, but it will depend on the times they run. I will 'google' them to find out the times. Will look forward to meeting up if possible.

gracesmum Wed 12-Jun-13 23:33:05

We're not quite that old!! grin

Tegan Wed 12-Jun-13 21:45:20

Well, Queens of the Stone Age are headlining; they sound as if they could be member of gransnet...

numberplease Wed 12-Jun-13 21:37:57

I think I`ll pass on the Monsters of Rock!

Tegan Wed 12-Jun-13 19:19:16

Crikey; that reminds me to go to the bank and pay some bills before it kicks off! The Co op does well, though smile. But people going to catch a flight from the airport sometimes get caught out by the traffic jam thereabouts and I don't think the planes wait for them [Ryanair certainly wouldn't...].

kittylester Wed 12-Jun-13 18:39:23

Shame number - we could always rearrange for over this weekend - it's the Monsters of Rock at the race track next door to the airport. grin

Bet Tegan can hear that if the wind is in the right direction - we can sometimes and we are much further away. [earplugs]

Tegan Wed 12-Jun-13 18:03:32

There'll be another time number. Also car journeys are really bad for you if you've got sciatica.
