Hello,I live in Loughborough and would be pleased to hear from any one who lives in Leicestershire

Tegan Sun 19-Jan-14 14:37:00

Hi Roderick; we do sometimes have meet ups at East Midlands Airport and could be due for another one. Fond memories of Loughborough and 'The Brush'!

Hi Roderick. I live just outside Loughborough. There are a few [but not many!!] of us in the East Midlands.

We are due a meetup soon so keep your eyes open.

Tell us more about yourself - hobbies etc.

Hello,
Thanks for replies,at 84 I am not very active but like meals out in pubs etc
I am interested in family history ,reading and surfing the net plus social activities, eating out etc
I live on my own so life gets a bit lonely sometimes

There's always someone to chat to on her, Roderick. Did you see the Michael Portillo programme the other night about Loughborough? My husband went to Loughborough University so I spent a lot of my mis spent youth there [he lived in Sileby for a while].

Tagan,
Thanks,I live a stones throw from Queens Park in Frederick St.
I was once a volunteer on the Great Central Railway and got a chance to drive a steam locomotive from Loughborough to Leicester and back,a great experience,Roderick

Is that the park they featured in the programme, with the bell tower? We used to go to the market and sometimes did the Santa Special, but they prefer to go to Butterley Station for that these days. We're very much a railway family.

Tegan,
Yes that is Queens Park featured in the programme,I can see the carillon from my house,it is very near

kittylester Sun 19-Jan-14 18:54:55

That programme was lovely wasn't it. I know the carillioneur (sp?) having been friends with her sister for ages. We think Michael Portillo fancied the leather gloves!! grin

Roderick, I love the houses on Frederick Street. We lived on Beacon Road for 15 years. DH hooted the hooter once when we had DD2's birthday party on the train. grin

Hullo All I'm in Leicester itself, at home with husband and son, live near the cricket club, terraced houses with lovely big back gardens. Plenty of wild life birds galore, squirrels, foxes, cats, house at back of us has two dogs who we are trying to keep in their back garden, used to have hedgehogs and had a partridge one afternoon in the garden, only seen the once. We have lived in Croydon, Yorkshire and South Africa and are very happy in Leicester, very cosmopolitan city.

I would like it if there were a few more clubs/meeting groups in my area, have a tea club but not much else. Is it worth trying to start a Family Tree Group going , know that there is a very good Family History Society Leics and Rutland but they are right in the centre of Leicester(where they probably need to be) but I am not one for shopping in a big town.

Aylestone Meadows is well worth a visit for the wild life living there, otters and muntjac deer.

I lived in Leicester (East) for 34 years- and taught in Loughborough for the last 10. We now live in (my native) Switzerland- OH was born in Cape Town but grew up in Sussex and Surrey. We have a flat in Market Harborough and visit regularly. Leicestershire is a beautiful county- and we have many friends there. DD2 now lives in our flat, but we have 2 beds- so can still visit often.

Hi bimba - welcome to GN.

I live near Loughborough and we will probably organise a meet-up somewhere around Nottingham, Derby, Leicester in the not too distant future.

Look at all the other threads and enjoy Gransnet - I think it's great.
