Mamie and I had a meetup for coffee last year when we discovered we were both on holiday in the same region in Spain, which was lovely, so it can be done

If you read a "Where are we?" thread you could check whether there is someone near where you will be going, and PM them.

Or perhaps post to say you are thinking of visiting somewhere (being vague about when) and ask if someone who lives there can tell you what to see and where to go. Once you get some responses, you can then PM someone.

A vague post like that on a local site would b a good idea too. Details of when you will be away can wait until you are in direct touch.
