April in Edinburgh

A month or so ago we were remembering the big all-day meetup we had in Edinburgh two years ago and there was enthusiasm for doing it again.

Ok - time to get down to some serious planning if it is all to be organised in time foir a Spring Spectacular in April. I shall try to pm everyone who was interested when it was first mentioned, but I hope that there will be others. Last time we had people from the other end of the country, and it was great to see everyone.

Dates first - can I ask you for an idea of when in April you can and particularly when you CANT make it so that I can see what date would suit most people. Is the weekend or a weekday better? Sunday travelling proved tricky last time, but weekdays are not convenient if you are working. There are plenty of places to stay here for anyone who wants to make a city break of it (other halves can join us for lunch if they like)

Venue probably the ROSL www.rosl-edinburgh.org/ subject to availability on our chosen date.

Next - what kind of programme would you like? Last time we had a really good talk about the beaver re-introduction trial (still no decision by Scottish executive on whether that re-introduction is to be made permanent!) and an exhilarating dicsussion on the Scottish Independence referendum, with some Scottish songs to finish. There were other things in reserve, but time ran out. There was coffee and biscuits, and a sit-down lunch.

I've found my original one (Elegran made us all one for the first big Edinburgh meet-up) smile

Katek Wed 13-Apr-16 19:04:52

Good idea Marelli....can only find Post Its, will they do I wonder?!

Elegran Wed 13-Apr-16 18:53:04

Its OK, Marelli There will be blank name-tags and coloured felt tips for everyone to make their own ornamental ones on Friday. That is provided they arrive here in time - they were to be delivered last weekend but I have had to contact the seller to ginger them up. Apparently they are in the Post and should have been here long ago, but they are sending out another lot urgently. Yeah, right.

Marelli Wed 13-Apr-16 18:47:06

Are we all going to be wearing name-tags? I was thinking about that when I was awake during the night!
I'm going to make mine now, because if I don't, I'll forget! smile

It really is miserable here! We'll just have to brighten ourselves up.

Elegran Wed 13-Apr-16 13:26:18

Friday is predicted to be 7 degrees max here by day (and feel like 3) down to 1 degree and showers at 2 pm. 1 degree or below at night.

Bring thermals too.

Pittcity Wed 13-Apr-16 13:02:35

I expect I will need to bring a coat - it's currently 18 degrees here in Colchester.

Remember to wear something with an expanding waistband, and bring throat lozenges for your vocal cords.

Jane10 Sat 09-Apr-16 09:20:26

Woohoo -its next week. I'm looking forward to meeting lots of other Grans. Elegran has organised a great venue. People coming for overnight stays remember to leave room in your cases for the party bags!

Almost all the confirmations and money is in now, my thanks to all. It looks as though there will be 20 to 24 of us. Two of those have seriously ill mothers and so may not be able to come. We will think of them and send them our love if they are not present.

Pittcity Tue 29-Mar-16 19:52:31

Anyone staying overnight?

hilda we are booked on the 8.20 from the central station smile

Elegran Tue 29-Mar-16 16:15:27

That sounds Ok, hildajenniJ In fact, the one up sounds very like the train that Glassortwo will be on, and perhaps others from that neck of the woods.

hildajenniJ Tue 29-Mar-16 16:04:20

Aarrgh! My Railcard ran out and I need a new one. I can get a train straight after work which will get me to Edinburgh at about 10.30. To get home again in time for enough sleep, I would need to leave at about 16.00. Would that be okay? What's the deadline for the money? Have I missed it? I am trying, really.

glassortwo Tue 29-Mar-16 15:41:20

grin

Elegran Tue 29-Mar-16 15:04:52

I take that back! It does say Edinburgh.

Elegran Tue 29-Mar-16 15:04:14

No, Glass, it doesn't say Edinburgh. Will pm you with what it did say.

glassortwo Tue 29-Mar-16 14:47:44

shock. Does it have Edinburgh on the payment if so its me Sorry, thought my name as on account would have shown, I can pm you my account no if that's any use smile if I had any brains I would be dangerous!!!!!

Elegran Tue 29-Mar-16 14:40:41

It moves on to a 3-course lunch, Trisher, and to more coffee/cake in the afternoon, with intervals of other "entertainments" to allow for digestion of intake and chances to rest the vocal cords.

trisher Tue 29-Mar-16 13:42:22

Thanks Elegran. An agenda starting with coffee/cake sounds just my thing. Really looking forward to meeting people.

Elegran Tue 29-Mar-16 13:22:15

Is anyone in contact with hildajenniJ ? On 5 Feb she was looking forward to joining us, but she has not replied to my PMs since then, and doesn't seem to be following this thread. I don't have any other way to contact her.

Same with Gaga1949, Josephine 257, RhonaB and Schnackie . They expressed a general interest early on, but have not responded to later PMs about arrangements. I am assuming that they can't come, or have lost interest, but I don't want to count them out too soon.
