April in Edinburgh

A month or so ago we were remembering the big all-day meetup we had in Edinburgh two years ago and there was enthusiasm for doing it again.

Ok - time to get down to some serious planning if it is all to be organised in time foir a Spring Spectacular in April. I shall try to pm everyone who was interested when it was first mentioned, but I hope that there will be others. Last time we had people from the other end of the country, and it was great to see everyone.

Dates first - can I ask you for an idea of when in April you can and particularly when you CANT make it so that I can see what date would suit most people. Is the weekend or a weekday better? Sunday travelling proved tricky last time, but weekdays are not convenient if you are working. There are plenty of places to stay here for anyone who wants to make a city break of it (other halves can join us for lunch if they like)

Venue probably the ROSL www.rosl-edinburgh.org/ subject to availability on our chosen date.

Next - what kind of programme would you like? Last time we had a really good talk about the beaver re-introduction trial (still no decision by Scottish executive on whether that re-introduction is to be made permanent!) and an exhilarating dicsussion on the Scottish Independence referendum, with some Scottish songs to finish. There were other things in reserve, but time ran out. There was coffee and biscuits, and a sit-down lunch.

Thatbags Thanks for replying to gaga1949 and Cinders123. I have been out and have only just got back to the computer for a quick check before bed. I shall PM them - but you have told them everything they need to know.

Elegran Sat 06-Feb-16 01:20:55

Here is my list of those who will be there. If I have missed you out, or added you by mistake, do correct me. There are places for more - up to 40! I shall be asking for money in the middle of March, but if you want to give it to me earlier I won't refuse it - PM me to ask where to send a cheque, or to get a bank reference for an online transfer.

Pittcity Sat 06-Feb-16 09:28:43

You are right Elegran , ROSL are booked up for the two nights, so I am booked in at Motel One near the station. Good price and can be cancelled at no charge right up to the date of stay.

Elegran Sat 06-Feb-16 13:45:46

How could I miss Gillybob! I think I saw the G of Glassortwo and thought I had her down. Sorry, Gillybob!

This is why I get you lot to check.

We will need nametags again! Are we sticking with gransnet names? I'm happy with Bags; it's what Soop always calls me anyway.

Marelli Sun 07-Feb-16 06:52:53

Memories of you calling 'Elizabeth!' at Aberdeen station, bags, and wondering why she was ignoring you! grin

gaga1949 Cinders123 and rockchick You have all expressed an interest, and I have PMed you but so far have had no reply. If you are not receiving emails from GN (you get a message in your ordinary email to remind you to look ) could you look in your Gransnet inbox? (a click box near the top of the page, beside the "Log in" box)

Elegran Sun 07-Feb-16 11:11:33

Same to Largolass and RhonaB who I have exchanged messages with, and I think will be there, but we seem to have lost communication.

Gherkin Sun 07-Feb-16 23:01:33

Hi, only just joined but would like to attend the meet up in Edinburgh. I live in Edinburgh anyway so no accommodation required. Can I put my name down for this please?

Elegran Sun 07-Feb-16 23:12:23

Yes, gherkin I'll add your name. It's nice to see another newbie joining us.

Marelli Sun 07-Feb-16 23:22:29

Largolass may be having WiFi problems where she is at the moment, Elegran.

schnackie Mon 08-Feb-16 01:00:01

Oh I would love to come! Please put me down as a tentative!

absent Mon 08-Feb-16 05:28:44

Gosh, that's quite a long list compared with the North-east and Scottish grannies first meet up in Glasgow. That was fun and so were subsequent meet-ups. I don't think there is anyone near enough (within less than 1,000 miles) for a meet-up for me. Of course, if things hadn't gone so sadly wrong, Greatnan and I would be having weekly lunches together.

Btw If anyone is ever planning a holiday in New Zealand, do get in touch if you have the time as it would be a real joy to get together

Pittcity Mon 08-Feb-16 08:56:14

We're going to need a bigger room!

Elegran Mon 08-Feb-16 10:49:56

You are now down as a tentative, Schnackie I shall PM you the details.

Numbers now at 23 definite and 7 more possible/probable. There is still room, Pittcity - we are nowhere near the 40 limit.

Absent I wonder whether we could do a Skype from the venue, or the equivalent? Or would you be in bed asleep when it is between 10 and 5 here?

stu4847 Sat 13-Feb-16 10:46:09

I'm new to the site [only joined today] but would love to meet up in April and make some new friends!

Elegran Sat 13-Feb-16 11:10:19

You will be very welcome, stu4847 I'll send you a PM with all the details. I assume you have ticked to receive emails via Gransnet? You will find them by clicking your inbox (up near the top of the page, beside "sign in")

Elizabeth1 Tue 16-Feb-16 11:20:26

Oh my and I'm not going to be there at this fabulous event with all these fabulous gransnetters.
elegran is it still on for Monday 21st March for a cheeky wee lunch in Edinburgh only because I'm feeling sorry for missing out. sad

Elegran Tue 16-Feb-16 11:58:26

Yes, E1 It is still on with me. anyone else? Probaly best to start a new thread now that most of the April thing is ortgabised - don't want to confuzz anyone. I'll launch it elsewhere. Where do you wanna go, E1?

Elizabeth1 Wed 17-Feb-16 08:10:51

I'll have a look on the discount websites to see if there's anything going. They're usually not bad at all.

Elizabeth1 Wed 17-Feb-16 08:16:12

The Rosehip has 2 mains for £11 why don't you Google trip advisor and see. I've been there several times and it's really good.

Marelli Wed 17-Feb-16 09:14:47

Elizabeth1, Elegran started another thread yesterday for the other, smaller meet up on March 21 (has it fallen off the end of the list - may need to 'bump' it)?
At the big meet up a couple of years ago quite a few of the 'over the border' Gn'ers went to the Rosehip for their evening meal, and really enjoyed it, remember?
Also, of course.....that's where you and I had that big fat burger before going to meet up that other time with Elegran et al at the Scottish Café in the Gallery....and we weren't able to eat our lovely afternoon tea! blush
