April in Edinburgh

A month or so ago we were remembering the big all-day meetup we had in Edinburgh two years ago and there was enthusiasm for doing it again.

Ok - time to get down to some serious planning if it is all to be organised in time foir a Spring Spectacular in April. I shall try to pm everyone who was interested when it was first mentioned, but I hope that there will be others. Last time we had people from the other end of the country, and it was great to see everyone.

Dates first - can I ask you for an idea of when in April you can and particularly when you CANT make it so that I can see what date would suit most people. Is the weekend or a weekday better? Sunday travelling proved tricky last time, but weekdays are not convenient if you are working. There are plenty of places to stay here for anyone who wants to make a city break of it (other halves can join us for lunch if they like)

Venue probably the ROSL www.rosl-edinburgh.org/ subject to availability on our chosen date.

Next - what kind of programme would you like? Last time we had a really good talk about the beaver re-introduction trial (still no decision by Scottish executive on whether that re-introduction is to be made permanent!) and an exhilarating dicsussion on the Scottish Independence referendum, with some Scottish songs to finish. There were other things in reserve, but time ran out. There was coffee and biscuits, and a sit-down lunch.

As a fellow Edinburgher let me know if I can be any help in organising this.

Elegran Sun 17-Jan-16 17:01:00

I think I shall circulate all those who have "previous engagements" to ask them to doublecheck - particularly those who are the only one who can't make a specific day. Back to the inbox when I have finished my coffee.

Glassortwo flowers (though I know it is really just to make sure that we don't end up holding this "conference" in Princes Street Gardens because I booked the wrong date at the ROSL. Oh no, when we get a date settled I still have to find out whether it is available!)

Are the benches in the gardens comfortable?

glassortwo Sun 17-Jan-16 14:28:31

elegran 2016 calendar winging to way to you, should arrive Tues/Wed xx

Elegran Sun 17-Jan-16 12:39:26

I have downloaded calendar pages for 2016 and printed them out - A4 size with plenty of room for scribbling on. Much better.
(found them here) You click on the image to enlarge and print it)

trisher Sun 17-Jan-16 12:19:36

Sounds far too complicated for me. Bring back paper calendars! Thanks for spending so much time and energy on this Elegran really appreciate all your effort. Good luck.

Elegran Sun 17-Jan-16 11:32:47

It may come to that, glass ! First I shall go back to the data and see whether I can make it look different a second third time round.

I thought I was doing so well too - it was my blasted mobile, the only calendar I have so far this year. It shows the dates of three months at a time, below each other with only the first on view until you scroll down and the nmaes of the three across the top. I have not used it before, so assumed that the month on show was the middle one of the three names.

Bah!

glassortwo Sun 17-Jan-16 09:36:11

elegran I don't envy you the job of sorting that one out smile maybe a blindfold and a pin grin

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 23:57:06

Dunit is hoping to come too.

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 23:56:02

They have quite a lot of flights - I think you would find it possible. I hope so.

Galen Sat 16-Jan-16 23:33:44

Still hoping. Would like to come and return same day, so dependant on easy jets flights from Bristol.

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 23:27:11

I have just looked again at my calendar (which has March April May written across the top of the March dates - leading me to think that it was April's dates, and March and May were forward or back one) and see that I have used March dates!

Have redone the correlation - and there are no days at all when everyone can be there together. I am going to bed now and will get up tomorrow and see whether it still says the same.

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 22:31:00

I've correlated all the possible dates, and when I crossed out the ones that each of the 20 of us couldn't do, there weren't a heck of a lot left.

It has come down to Monday 14th, Friday 18th or Saturday 19th April. Second round of voting now - which of these do we prefer? There shouldn't be a problem with them being unavailable, not when we are starting this early, but I'd like to get them pencilled in with the ROSL. Once I do that I can find out costs and get back to you with that.

I'll PM this to everyone as well as posting it on here.

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 13:42:57

And now add Largolass - another Fifer.

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 13:13:23

so add :-

*Ffinnochio
EllenT
Tiredoldwoman
Marmight
Trisher*

And add an "on" to my reply to *FFinnochio"

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 13:09:46

OOh sorry, ffinnochio. You are my own list.

Reporting me is a bit harsh though!

ffinnochio Sat 16-Jan-16 13:07:22

Twitchy finger and have just reported your last post Elegran shock. Apologies.

However, you did leave me off the list smile

Elegran Sat 16-Jan-16 12:57:51
