Jeez is this what it's coming to? I haven't heard of it but I suppose it makes sense to be prepared . Sad sad world we live in .

Yes Greenfinch my two American DGC's have had this at school.
They are 5 and 6 years old
My DS in America actually experienced a lockdown at work because someone was on the rampage a block away from his building, a woman had been killed and several people injured

I can understand it in a way in America, where misuse of guns is so common but hadn't realised it was thought necessary here too.
I suppose though it's not so very different from the fire-drills we uded to do at school really. I don't remember being traumatised by those, although fires in mills and people's house were very common in those days.

I think Minibags was traumatised by a visit to school from the local fire service when she was seven. She has a vivid imagination and had nightmares about fire for years afterwards. Perhaps the talk had been a bit too graphic for kids her age.

Remember Dunblane? I am surprised that nobody thought to introduce this drill after that atrocity.

Seven grandkids never had it happen in any of their schools but as others have said similar to a fire drill
I remember when my youngest child was at high school and that would be 30 odd years ago they did have an infiltrator enter their school ( an old school member with a grudge) so it's not a new phenonomen

Yes, in the heart of rural Berkshire. I visited a school in Reading yesterday and was given a document to read about students 'safety and had to sign that I had read it.It was a similar sort of thing but in a secondary school. This particular school, though you had to report to reception, could never be really safe because of extensive grounds and a myriad of different buildings.

In New Zealand schools their regular earthquake drills involve getting under their tables. It's routine even for very young pre-schoolers.
