Would anyone like a visit to the beautiful town of St Andrews 27 -30 June? If you're available please give me your preferred date.

Katek Wed 28-Jun-17 10:43:39

Sorry to hear that Elizabeth, had been looking forward to meeting you. Perhaps next time-hope all is well.

Elegran Wed 28-Jun-17 08:42:09

That is a shame, Elizabeth1

Marydoll Wed 28-Jun-17 07:29:18

Sorry to here that Elizabeth, you were so looking forward to it. I hope you are OK.

Sad news my friends I'll be unable to meet up with you all tomorrow. Please think of me Marelli will explain.

Katek Mon 26-Jun-17 23:19:35

Checked out taxi price....around £20 so shares would be good.

Katek Mon 26-Jun-17 23:13:52

I'm heading in the opposite direction to everyone else but perhaps a taxi share could be feasible. My train is at 15.31 or can catch 16.24-ties in quite well with the southbound contingent. I haven't met everyone-should I carry a rolled up copy of the Times and sport a pink carnation?!

Elegran Mon 26-Jun-17 20:42:29

Right, I am on the train which gets into Leuchars at 12.05, and probably on the 3.47 from Leuchars home. Not sure whether my ticket lets me get the 16.22 or not.

oldgoat Mon 26-Jun-17 20:10:47

Sorry for mis-spelling Leuchars folks. I'm catching the 16.22 train home elegran It goes all the way to York with no changes. Anybody fancy sharing a taxi to Leuchars from St.Andrews? Hope there will be time for a bit of sight-seeing.

Marydoll Mon 26-Jun-17 20:07:53

I hope you all have a lovely day on Thursday. envyHubby offered to drive me and do his own thing for a few hours (Golf shops!) However, we are are now painting the hall and stairs, as the paintwork got damaged when the new bathroom was being installed.sad No comparison.

Elegran Mon 26-Jun-17 20:02:16

oldgoat I've looked again, this time concentrating on the train, and it does seem to be just 100 yards or so - I don't know what I saw before.

Is anyone else getting a train which gets into Leuchars at 12.22? And what time train home is anyone else catching? I can get 15.30, 15.47, 16.22, 17.02, or 17.33.

Katek Mon 26-Jun-17 18:15:21

I'd plump for the bus.....will save costs as well. I'm doing a car/train/taxi! DH has decided to go and visit his father further south in Fife while I'm having lunch. He'll take car from St Andrews and I'll take taxi/train back as he'll be with FIL until evening. Complications....it was easy when I was driving there and back!

oldgoat Mon 26-Jun-17 18:14:36

Doesn't the St.Andrews bus go from outside Luchars station elegran ?

oldgoat Mon 26-Jun-17 18:11:45

Looking forward to seeing you all again. I'm travelling up from Burntisland by train and will catch the bus from Luchars. Should arrive just after midday so I'll have plenty of time to make my way to the Tailend. Anybody else coming by train?

Elegran Mon 26-Jun-17 18:07:57

I have been looking at buses and trains. The bus stops at just about every house on the way, but goes from Edinburgh bus station to St Andrews bus station with no changes and minimal walking. The train/bus combination has fewer stops, but at least one change and longer walks in between train and bus. Swings and roundabouts!

Katek Mon 26-Jun-17 17:39:33

Are we all set fair for Thursday?

Marydoll Thu 15-Jun-17 23:54:08

envy DS and DIL came back this afternoon and to quote them, "We had a ball!"

Marmight Thu 15-Jun-17 19:00:23

www.eastneukfestival.com/ is at the end of June and is mostly music. Crail Festival is from 19 July. Both worth a visit. I am staying in an air b&b with a friend so we can do 3 days worth of concerts and I won't have to keep driving back and forth (& can have a few ?'s)

Marydoll Wed 14-Jun-17 20:30:42

I had never heard of Crail Festival, so I've just looked it up. We had so many lovely holidays in Anstruther and Crail when our children were young. Enjoy! I still have pottery I bought at the Crail pottery 40 yrs ago.
Son, DIL and DGD are in St Andrew's on holiday this week. They are having a ball. Wish we were there, but a new bathroom installation has put paid to that trip.
Enjoy your meet up.

Brilliant Marmite hope you can come to St Andrews there's a place booked just for you. We too love Crail Festival so might bump into you there.

Marmight Sun 11-Jun-17 08:24:04

No, I haven't moved yet!! I've been awol for a few weeks and just caught up with this , thanks to Marelli. Can I be put down as a maybe? I have to be in Crail the next day with a friend for the East Neuk Festival and I'm not sure if I'll have the energy/time to do 2 journeys to East Fife in 2 days having just returned from Devon on the 28th!

Elizabeth1 Sun 11-Jun-17 07:38:15

[Elegran] I used to read Ian Rankins books and at that time I happened to be sitting next to him at a charity function in Edinburgh. I just had to ask him what biscuit ersed meant from one of his books. I'll let you know what he said when we meet. He said he pinched the expression from Trainspotting.

MawBroon Wed 07-Jun-17 18:20:34

I should have loved to revisit my Alma Mater but am actually (!!) going to be on my way back from visiting DD, SIL and DGS in Sweden. Sis-in-law is coming to stay with Paw, woo hoo! (A bit nervous actually!)

Elegran Wed 07-Jun-17 17:19:23

Post them on here, Oldgoat. It is always good to keep old words alive.

annodomini Wed 07-Jun-17 17:02:52

Might be able to translate unfamiliar words for you, OG. I trust they didn't spoil your enjoyment of the book.

oldgoat Wed 07-Jun-17 16:22:23

Thanks for the reading suggestions elegran Came across a few unfamiliar words in 'Death in a scarlet gown' and Kindle didn't know the meaning of them either!
