I shan't mention the dreaded C**-word yet, as September is only partway through, but we do need to start planning and booking if we want to meet up in December. The sooner we book the more likely we are to get a table.

Possible dates - 11th to 20th December, with the 14th or 15th mentioned.
Possible venue - ROSL, Princes Street.
Likely format - lunchtime eating and drinking, and talking. It is just possible that a splinter group may also go to see a show in the afternoon, if there is one that appeals.
Numbers - So far six people are interested. ( Katek Elizabeth1 Jane10 EllenT Marelli Me )

Please add your name if you are interested, and say which date(s) you would prefer.

I muffed in my post so I'm reposting here.

Home to driving sleet for my drive round the loch! An altogether lovely meet up though, followed by a catch up with DD2 afterwards and before my train across country.

Thank you to elegran for making all the arrangements.
and the food was good.

Here are the proprietors of the Soop Kitchen and the Argy Bargy Cafe looking like a pair of best buddies.

What a lovely day it was. Thanks again to Elegran who did us proud once again!
It was so good to see Gillybob and Soop again, as well as the newer faces, too. We did make quite a lot of noise.....but then, we always do!!
Granny23, I’d missed your post from yesterday- hopefully you’ll be able to join us next time - and maybe annsixty, too.

Jane10 Wed 13-Dec-17 20:19:19

We all hope you could join us sometime annsixty. Maybe one of these days...

Marydoll Wed 13-Dec-17 20:16:24

Just home after a verrrry long journey to Glasgow, the train must have stopped at every station between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central. .
I had a super day and everyone was so welcoming.
Elegran , thank you so much for organising everything.

annsixty Wed 13-Dec-17 19:50:57

Oh how I wish I could join you sometime.
It all sounds so good with lots of regular posters and well known names meeting up.
I know just how much I would enjoy it, maybe one day.

I've had a restorative cup of coffee and a sit-down with a Ryan murder novel (The Dark Sky, just published) and now feel recovered enough to look on Gransnet. That was a great meetup. Thank you for braving the weather today, particularly Soop who left home at 5 am! It was so nice to see old faces and meet new ones.

While everyone's attention is on this meet-up, how about getting something arranged for the end of January? (Burns night is a good excuse) I've started a new thread about it under the meet-ups topic heading.

Elizabeth1 Wed 13-Dec-17 18:43:47

I had a smashing time today catching up with lovely ladies. Thank you again Elegran you're a fabulous organiser x

gillybob Wed 13-Dec-17 17:22:28

A great big thank you from me Elegran it was great to catch up and to put (new) faces to names too. xx

Jane10 Wed 13-Dec-17 17:17:33

Oh yes. A good time was had by all! Lots of photos taken as instructed. I expect the various photographers will be posting them once they've sobered up soon.

oldgoat Wed 13-Dec-17 17:13:22

Another great meet-up with the Edinburgh Grans. Thanks for all your hard work Elegran
Hope to see you all again in the New Year.

gillybob Wed 13-Dec-17 10:53:57

On the train now .whoopee xx

Elegran Wed 13-Dec-17 10:31:43

So far, so good . . . .

gillybob Wed 13-Dec-17 09:53:50

Well I made it to Newcastle in one piece . Fingers crossed for the East Coast Mainline !

Elegran Tue 12-Dec-17 16:35:46

Maybe you will get up here in January, G23 If we start organising it as soon as the crumbs are swept up from tomorrow's lunch we can get a date fixed and you can put it in your diary and tell everyone that someone else will have to take your place that day. You need your time off to be an effective carer, God knows.

As for storms in sporrans - well, we know that those mostly generate hot air and bad smells.

Granny23 Tue 12-Dec-17 16:19:05

I have been trying since September to arrange a 'day off' from caring duties so that I could join you all in Edinburgh tomorrow (especially since I realised that Gillybob was coming up). But the best laid plans have been stymied at every turn and now a cancelled and re-arranged for tomorrow appointment for DH has dealt the final blow.

Sending best wishes to all the Grans who will be there. Hope you all have a lovely time in Christmassy Edinburgh.

PS -due to the storm in a sporran that has blown up on another thread it may be best that I am absent - don't want to cause any more upset.

Marydoll Tue 12-Dec-17 15:11:42

I'm meeting Jan at Waverly. Her train gets in at 12.19, fingers crossed.
So looking forward to it.
Gillybob, I hope the Metro is running and Soop, have a safe journey down to Glasgow. I bet the scenery will be stunning.

Elegran Tue 12-Dec-17 14:28:03

So I'll see you all tomorrow at about 12.30, either in the Edinburgh Room (second floor at the front, the lift is down a few steps from reception and round a corner ) or in the bar (between the Edinburgh Room and the restaurant.) The bar may be quite full if the BoS pensioners get there early and go for a snifter.

gillybob Tue 12-Dec-17 10:39:56

I don't want to tempt fate but I have more faith in the East Coast Mainline from Newcastle to Edinburgh than I do in the Tyne and Wear Metro that I will need to catch from home to Newcastle... hmm

cascats Tue 12-Dec-17 10:35:13

Yes please Elegran, off she goes to look for a tarten scrunchie, wonder if they have tarten scrunchies here in the Netherlands hmm, maybe wait till am home again. grin

Elegran Tue 12-Dec-17 09:59:13

I've just turned on my computer to find that Cascats won't be here tomorrow. That is such a disappointment after all the buildup and looking forward to it. As you say, next time!!

How is everyone else placed? There doesn't seem to be as much snow in the north as further south, so others may be luckier. The forecast for tomorrow is mostly dry, cloudy, temperatures about 3 - 4, feeling colder after 4 pm when it gets dark.

Do you think we should plan another meetup for the end of January under the excuse of Burns night?
