Meet ups/where are you?

ladies that like to lunch in London

I live in Bromley area but an easy 20 minute (free) commute into London. My husband and 1 took early retirement to share childcare of my 7 grand children and in spare time like to use our free Oyster card to explore London. However it quickly became apparent that our expectations wildly differ. His ideal day would be a couple of pints and a Pret whilst I like lively, trendy places for a cocktail and sit down lunch/dinner. So I’m looking for like-minded ladies who might fancy meeting up in Town once in a while.

But after suggesting that I saw that people kept posting on this one so I haven't used the other one since, just in case any posts were missed! Maybe we should continue using this one until this next Meet has been attended, and THEN use a new one???

Charleygirl5 Thu 02-May-19 17:53:06

Thanks, I missed that- will return to my slumber I think.

Hi Charley smile

notgoneyet suggested upstream that she may start a new thread:

May start new post as this one has got quite long now lol.

Charleygirl5 Thu 02-May-19 16:59:27

What new thread Grannyknot?? I am confused.

Grannyknot Thu 02-May-19 16:56:08

Hi everyone, If the date suits, I shall come and I'll invite Purpledaffodil too.

I'll keep a look out for the date either on here or on the new thread!

Hi SusiQ
Where did you get 29th August/28th September from? Are you sure you're not looking at last year, 2018? Date hasn't been decided for this Meet yet just the venue - Debenhams Oxford Street. Keep a lookout for date soon to be suggested smile

Great idea and I would love to join you ladies. However, not available on 29th August nor 18th September. Being cheeky, does it have to be several months away?

I am up for both so crystaltipps please PM me as have never been to the Wallace Collection. I am 20 to 25 minutes on the tube.

Charleygirl5 Tue 30-Apr-19 19:01:47

crystaltipps we have agreed on a venue, Debenhams, Bellanonna is sorting out dates for next month.

It has been researched by Bellanonna and myself. Loads of space, nice coffee and a reasonable price.

How about the cafe in the Wallace collection? Just down by side of Selfridges. Really spacious , trees, glass atrium. The collection is free to get in. Worth a look.

Hi notgoneyet. Looking forward to your next post.

Hi Catt
I have been trying to find time to get around to looking for somewhere to meet. I'm going up to London on Thursday to look at a couple of places for suitability near Oxford Circus. Will post when done. May start new post as this one has got quite long now lol.

And to think that I missed all that excitement! However I had my lovely grandson for several hours and the time flew in very fast.

Grannyknot Tue 30-Oct-18 21:02:37

Catterygirl I'm so pleased you found me, just when I thought I'd be lunching alone smile

Grannyknot Tue 30-Oct-18 20:25:52

Charleygirl yes I am. My OH works nearby (but not every day) and he is calling in there tomorrow with a reward for the waiter, I have his name.

I have never done that before - not carried any cash, just the two cards, thinking I would "travel light". Never again, I may have had to walk home! shock It must have fallen out of my pocket, also careless of me blush.

Catterygirl Tue 30-Oct-18 19:01:10

Oh, we did have a fun time searching for each other. So next time it will have to be under the station clock wearing a red rose in the lapel. LOL. I had a lovely Indian Thali in the kitchen and will take my husband to try it sometime. I left most of it as I lost a tooth at the weekend and my gum is still uncomfortable but at least I know what it's like and I had good company in Grannyknot. So glad we eventually found the other two ladies in the Brass Rail on the ground floor and had a good chat and got to know each other. As I am lucky to live 22 minutes by tube from Oxford Circus, I often shop in the Marks and Spencer flagship store at Marble Arch and then pop over to The Brass Rail on my own for a salt beef sandwich. They aren't cheap but are enormous for meat lovers. Sometimes I take half home for my son.

So glad Grannyknot got her purse back. Here's to the next meet up.

Charleygirl5 Tue 30-Oct-18 18:43:04

I was actually looking for the nearest loo when notgoneyet found me. I was then going home because I had given up. We spent a pleasant hour or so having a tea and coffee and then Grannyknot and Catterygirl found us and we continued seamlessly with our chat.

Grannyknot you were so so lucky that young fellow looked after your purse for you. It would have been hell on earth getting a new Freedom pass and a new bank card.

Grannyknot Tue 30-Oct-18 18:27:24

Today was quite an adventure! I was on the 4th floor, thank goodness Catterygirl found me. Charleygirl5 and NotGoneYet were in The Brass Rail on the ground floor.

I think we missed each other going up and down escalators and/or whizzing up and down in express lifts and what not.

All's well that ends well because we eventually found each other and is was lovely to meet new faces and catch up with everyone.

Postcript! I left to go to Bond Street Station, only to discover that my purse was gone! Inside was my Freedom Pass and my bank card, and nothing else. A bit panicky, I could only think of making my way back to Selfridges in the vain hope that it had been found in that packed cafe, and sure enough, as I approached, the young man who had served me came bounding up to me to say that he had kept it safe for me! I gave him a huge hug and almost lifted him off his feet (not).

All's well that ends well indeed.
