Good morning from a Yorkshire lass who is up with the larks yet again this morning, and wondering how to keep myself entertained. I'm on my second cup of tea - the second of many lol.
A few chores soon, and then fill out my new diary with birthdays and so on.
Anyone else from West Yorkshire?

I'm a Yorkshire lass too. Lived away for most of my adult life but am back now. It's really strange how the accent returns. After years speaking "posh" as my family might say, there's now no doubt where I come from - the evidence is there every time I open my mouth.

Hellogirl1 Sat 27-Mar-21 23:06:07

Jeanie99, thanks for clarifying, I wondered about your accent, but didn`t like to ask! I was born in S.Yorkshire, but left many years ago, go back occasionally to visit family.

Born and lived in Sheffield until we married in our early 20s.
Then moved over the border into Derbyshire where we lived for over 30 years.
We still both worked in Sheffield until we retired and then moved to Lincolnshire, where we are very happy.
Still have close friends living in Yorkshire and still travel over to see them.
I always say I can talk for Yorkshire and I believe we are all outgoing people and very friendly, it's a great country with lovely people.

My daughter lives in Saltaire and we visit regularly - she has a new baby so we are her support bubble. A lovely area with lots to do for miles around. We have links to Horsforth, Kirkstall and Leeds too.

I'm a Yorkshire lass too Madwoman born in Donny, lived in Bridlington for a time then moved to Hull. Now living in France but if I go back to UK it would be Yorkshire again.

Love the area around Holmfirth Gagagran although it's many years since I visited. Enjoyed looking round Piece Hall as well.

I am from Donny too Sodapop, left when I was 18 in 1980 but my Mum is still there.

Now living in Wiltshire which is also a really gorgeous place to live!

I’m West Yorkshire born and bred - Elland and Halifax- but on missionary service in Derbyshire. ( someone has to tell them how to eat Yorkshire Puddings!) Our daughter was born in Nottinghamshire but went to university in Hull, married a Yorkshire man and hasn’t left. Both grandchildren born in Yorkshire. We can move away from Yorkshire but never stop being Tykes!

❤️ it Aldom!

I was born in Yorkshire, of Yorkshire parents, grandparents. It's true what they say. 'There are those who were born in Yorkshire, those who wish they were born in Yorkshire and those with no ambition at all'. grin

Urmstongran Thu 04-Mar-21 19:19:06

Our eldest daughter has lived in Yorkshire with her partner for almost ten years now. Horsforth. I love the whole area. Pudsey, Keighley, salts Mill, Guisley. A friend lives in a cottage in Homfirth right in the little town centre. Envious much? She drove us over to Staithes one weekend. I loved it.

God’s Own Country for sure. x

This thread has made me feel homesick, with all the mentions of Holmfirth and Castle Hill.
Because of Covid, I haven't visited 'home' since last February, and I'm missing it. sad

Madwoman11 Thu 31-Dec-20 20:28:40

Aww thanks for all your lovely comments everyone. If anyone wants a natter anytime ( She says in a Yorkshire accent) I'm happy to chat.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2021 ?

I’m Yorkshire by marriage- does that count? DH originally from near Ilkley and we go back every year so he can breathe God’s air, so I know West Yorkshire really well and I love it. We now live in north Kent where our children, grandchildren and business are; will have to make do with visiting once a year whilst DH does missionary work in the S.E.

I'm a Yorkshire lass born and bred too. Magnificent county.

Grannybags Thu 31-Dec-20 16:00:50

I'm the youngest of five siblings. My parents and all siblings were born in North Yorkshire but moved South before I was born - I've never forgiven them for making me a Southerner!!

I still think of myself as a Yorkshire Lass though and head North for holidays at every opportunity.

Favourite place is the little white bridge on the edge of the moors near Osmotherly. Lots of family photos over the generations standing on there.

Greeneyedgirl Thu 31-Dec-20 15:28:54

My OH is from Skipton and we met when I went to Huddersfield, Leeds and Bradford to train and my two boys were born in Bradford where we lived for years.

We’ve moved to Shropshire now but are regular visitors to West Yorkshire and particularly Saltaire (until recently of course) and love Salts Mill, which was still a working mill when we lived there. Miss it a lot.

Hello. West Yorkshire Lass, born and bred.
Keep meaning to visit Saltaire with my camera when health and this pesky Pandemic permits. Madwoman11
We love Piece Hall for a day out MissChateline - it is the last place we visited for a day out shopping before corona.
Love Castle Hill for the amazing sunsets MollyMandy
Some of our favourite places to visit vampirequeen SIL is a member of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
Love Bradford too Bradfordlass73

Well I feel like I'm in such good company, thank you for sharing this lovely thread ladies. There is something about the topography of Yorkshire, as well as the folk, that I find incomparable to anywhere else. Although I do find Lancashire, Cumbira and Derbyshire very nice too. I often wonder if I would love it so much if I had been born elsewhere, but during lockdown we have found lots of local hidden gems that I simply never knew were there, and I fell in love with so many of them.

I expect Donny has changed out of all recognition now MadeinYorkshire I worked at DRI for a time. My Aunt lived in Balby in a house opposite the shop where Open All Hours was filmed. She actually appeared briefly in one episode,

lemongrove Thu 31-Dec-20 12:21:01

Another Yorkshire pudding here ( used to be called the West Riding) but haven’t lived there for over fifty years. Sadly no family left there to visit for a long time.

I'm a Yorkshire lass, born in Hull although they did try to make it Humberside (a label my dad always resisted, putting E. Yorks on all his post!). Lived in the NE- Newcastle area for many years now. Go back to Hull occasionally (mostly for funerals). We do love to holiday in Yorkshire. Had cottages in some lovely areas- Malton, Kilburn etc. York is always a favourite. I did a visit to Saltaire and Bradford last year. Amazing Victorian village and Hockney! What more could you want. God's own county!
