Menopause and oestrogen

I survived the menopause without HRT. However, no one suggested that it was worth asking for mammograms after they stop at 71. At 77 I developed oestrogen driven breast cancer. Tried Letrazole but it gave me bad carpel tunnel so switched to Tamoxifen. 4 1/2 years clear now and one more mammogram booked next year. After that, will have to ask for another one. Both Tamoxifen and Letrazole are pretty much the exact opposite of HRT! Luckily at 80 + I haven’t had any hot flushes, thining hair etc. often experienced at the menopause. However, I think younger women do suffer the usual menopausal symptoms after having to take the breast cancer pills.
Moral of my tale - keep asking for mammograms particularly if taking HRT.

I had breast cancer 18 years ago and blamed taking HRT. My GP thought every woman should take it . I have asked for breast screening since I was not offered it but am beginning to think I will just forget all about it now. I would not like to go through all the treatment again at my age.
