Apart from Ovestin cream for vaginal atrophy and UTIs, I haven't needed HRT. However, at the age of 75 I am getting the most agonising flushing/burning. I have done a lot of research into the symptoms that low estrogen can cause. There are the obvious ones like osteoporosis, of course, which I have. But there are lesser known ones such as increased gut permeability, lower stomach acid and food intolerances. I have had food intolerances and low stomach acid since I entered menopause 20 years ago but never associated any of it with the menopause. I have researched gut permeability, the causes, symptoms etc and know that I have this also. Which all leads me to wanting to go onto HRT. The waves or flushes of intense burning are unbearable and I feel like I'm being tortured to death. My doctor just wants me to take pain killers, but as I have Stage 3 CKD, I'm not keen on this idea if HRT will stop the flushing.
I am wondering if there's anybody in this forum who has started HRT this late in the peace and who is also diabetic? I would only be interested in low dose gel (which can be modified further) or patches which don't have the same risks of blood clotting that the pills do.
