Hi, I went through the menopause which started at around 45 and finished around 54. I had dreadful symptoms but didn't want HRT due to the cancer risk. I've been symptom free for many years, so no hot flushes, lack of sleep etc since around 55 years old. I've noticed over the past few years that my skin is now very crepey and saggy. However the big concerns for me are: forgetting words (started at around 57 years old) making me concerned that I'm showing signs of early dementia. Also my bones seem very clonky. I exercise regularly but I'm noticing my bones seem painful and stiff. My mum had osteoporosis and I've had broken bones over the past couple of years. I've contacted my doctor and made an appointment (the earliest 1 months time as it's obviously not urgent for them) as want to explore HRT and how it could help me re: the osteoporosis and bone density risk as well as the memory. I do have other symptoms eg painful and dry ladies bits. I just wondered if anyone here had only started HRT at this age and if it helped them.

I asked my doctor if I could go on HRT due to bone density but was told as it had been 10 years since menopause it would be of no benefit.

I think it depends which doctor you see as I have heard of others that have done this.

I was on HRT for 8 years but was taken off it by my GP with the cancer scare, this was years ago, I’m 81.
Ok creepy skin, I have no idea what you can do about this, mine is in my arms, I worked out 3 times a week at the gym until I was 74 so made no difference, and did classes including yoga.
Memory, I noticed my memory issues about 9 years ago, saw the GP and had a memory test, told I was ok. Because my memory seemed to get worse I insisted I be sent to the memory clinic again about 18 months ago, I had another test which showed my memory was 1 percent worse than before which is good. However I do have Mild Cognitive Impairment. This doesn’t necessarily mean I could in the future have Dementia. The memory clinic will see me on a yearly referral and monitor me.
If I were you I would insist on testing.
I had a radical hysterectomy last year followed by chemotherapy and I feel blessed, I have a friend who died late 40s an2 friends who died in there early 50s. Live the life you can try not to worry about the things you can not change, live life to the full and think positive.

Oh forgot to say I have osteoporosis among other health issues and I worked out at the gym for many years with the idea of preventing osteoporosis. I am on medication for it Adcal D, never had fractures or aching bones. To be honest I wouldn’t even have known I had Osteoporosis if I hadn’t had a Dexa scan when I had a fall off a ladder. Luckily I didn’t have a fracture just torn ligaments. I have found out when dealing with our GP you really have to keep on at them to get anything done.Best of luck.

I’ve been on HRT since my early 50s. Just finished my period.
My gynaecologist said he has ladies on HRT into their 80s.
Have they said you can go on it?
Probably have a battle on your hands to get HRT

My gp won’t prescribe HRT to women over 60 unless they are already on it. I understand from a number of people that vitamin B12 has been beneficial for the symptoms you describe.
