Menopause anxiety, depression & mood swings

I have been dealing with the night sweats & hot flashes for a couple years now but recently my depression & anxiety have gotten worse. A friend recommended HRT because she is on it & said it has really helped with her depression & anxiety. Has anyone else struggled more with this while going through perimenopause? I am a huge worrier anyways & worry myself sick over my adult children. Whenever they are hurting or upset my anxiety goes through the roof. Any advice or suggestions would be so appreciated 😊 thank you in advance

Both my daughters have benefitted from HRT patches they were prescribed. They both say anxiety, low mood, fugg and headaches are much diminished. Could you try it and see if it works for you.

My worse symptoms were anxiety, insomnia and low mood. HRT (estrogel and utrogestan) is helping.

Hi Dmom of 2, I'm sorry to hear of your anxiety and worries.

I had similar issues with the menopause and was seeing a psychiatrist at the time because I was so low. I was on medication for depression for 18months which didn't help at all.

I had left my husband two years earlier and had financial worries and two teenage sons to care for. My ex made access to child support very difficult, fortunately his family did help out when needed.

Eventually I visited my GP and told him about the medication not working and he put me on HRT (tablets) and within 2 weeks my mood lifted dramatically.

I eased of the anti depressants and didn't look back.

I was on HRT for 15 months and still marvel at the change they made. This was just over twenty years ago and to be honest the HRT saved my life!

My menopause started with the most appalling mood swing; I was either murderous or suicidal.
HRT changed my life. I can’t recommend it strongly enough.
Go for it!

Please don’t hate me but I don’t think i had any symptoms at all Life was completely normal apart from not missing the dreadful monthlies
I have never experienced a hot flush or any mood swings or anything else My eldest daughter has been exactly the same it all just stopped

Thank you for this today. My daughter is struggling with depression and possible peri menopause. Good to hear of the benefits of HRT.

I had a horrible nenopause and do sympathise. Tried HRT but it didn’t work out for me, wish I had tried again because I had a rough few years.
Whatever you decide to do don’t let anyone say to you ‘is just the menopause’ because it really can be debilitating. I hope HRT works out for you because friends I had who went in it said it saved their sanity.

I went through the menopause with minor problems as did my Mum. There must have been women who did suffer more through this natural biological change but my generation were told to just get on with it so that's what we did.

I was the same - I also had horrendous insomnia, anxiety and depression, as well as the hot flushes, but HRT didn't help me at all. If it hadn't been for one doctor prescribing me an antidepressant, I genuinely don't think I'd be here today. So please go and see your GP, be brutally honest about the symptoms you have and see what they say. HRT may well make a world of difference to you.

I was the same. I took medicine prescribed by a herbal practitioner. I don’t believe in HRT or anything unnatural.

Isn't HRT natural, as in the transdermal types?
I use HRT and would much prefer if I didn't have too but my symptoms were debilitating and now I manage. I think it's important to support each other during this difficult time, without judgement.

Body Identical HRT, which is the standard, is derived from plants, so basically herbal. Synthetic HRT is only prescribed in exceptional circumstances.
It's a hormone replacement, as is Vitamin D.

I have suffered with anxiety episodes all my life but in peri menopause it went from my occassional 'flare ups' to a constant background buzz and made me despondent. Been on HRT for 3 months and feel its honestly helping.
