Sir Jimmy Savile

That's a chunk of my youth gone. I think he was responsible for the "Under the Bedclothes Club" on Radio Luxembourg when young teenagers would listen to the latest hits on tiny transistors when they were meant to be asleep – then Top of the Pops. He did the first and the last. We shouldn't forget the pleasure he bought to younger kids with Jim'll Fix It and the amount of time and effort he put into his charity work. An odd man but an all-round good egg, I think.

He was certainly a bit barmy but did a lot of good.

When my daughter was small, she thought his first name was Jim'll and his second name was Fixit. Her letter to him began: "Dear Jim'll!"

A part of our teenage years gone alas. He was a big-heartd man with a lot of love to give and sadly no one recipient apart from his mum whom he adored and, of course the thousands (hundreds of thousands?) he served, entertained and helped.
I wonder what St Peter will ask him to fix?

My dad was one of Jimmy Savile's schoolteachers for a while.

Awwww Jim will fix it for you and you and you , he will be missed, he did a lot for charity.

Back in the Karma Chameleon days, my girls tried to get Jim to fix it for me to have my face made up by Boy George.
It didn't happen, but waiting for the post was exciting for a few weeks!

notso I could give it a go if you fancy, brought some face paints home from work for GC for halloween, mind I am not very good but have done a tiger and a butterfly tonight.

It wasn't so much the make-up I fancied was interested in glass, it was the Boy himself. I didn't have a clue that he was gay. (I could do with a muppet smiley)

Oh so sad to hear he's gone another part of my youth gone with him,dad used to alway's catch me listening to my transister radio when he was on I supposed to be doing homework and my twin brother alway's told on me.Sir Jim raised thousands and thousands for charity's and did many marathon's in his time a well thought of man.

I think he did the North run last year ( I think).

I remember when his mother died and he said he had a permament telephone line to her..... could speak to her whenever he wanted to... Rest in Peace Jim You "fixed it" for lots of people

I used to go to lunchtime dance sessions that Jimmy Saville DJ'd in Manchester, when I was 16. We would dash out of work and run round to the dance hall on Oxford Street in Manchester, dance like crazy for 45 minutes then run back to work. Soon after that, he DJ'd at the Top Twenty Club at Belle Vue, and introduced groups like The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits and The Hollies. The 60's were wonderful!

I see his estate has been frozen . That is good hope his victims may get some reconpense .

It is fascinating how this thread has now changed, very much a reflection of public opinion over the last months. What a can of worms has been opened. There must be some very worried people - as well they should be.

Without having any knowledge of his crimes , I would still have felt the same way the day he died. I always disliked him and found his shows unwatchable.

not a favourite of mine even in my innocent days & when there were no rumours.. too much of a facade rather than a real person.

The children liked to watch Jim'll Fix It to see children getting their wish. He was sort of incidental. DD did send a letter once (without much hope), I'm rather glad he didn't fix it for her.
