How to Keep Living at Home Longer
When a political leader lies on their CV - can you trust them?
An ally of David Cameron's, Nick Boles, is about to make a speech calling for an end to universal benefits for better-off pensioners - bus passes, winter fuel allowance, free prescriptions - and the money to be spent on childcare.
We may go on Newsnight tonight to talk about this. What do you think? Any examples of how these benefits help or what they mean to people?
I've just googled I jack and you're right!
I believe he is in Baton Rouge. There is a rumour that his text is computer generated. He is on Twitter.
Eerily similar prose style, wherever Deserving is living.
"their must be a word for that?" Yes, there must.
Anagram don"t wish to be a nuisance , is there any way you send it me,via GN
He's American, isn't he? I don't think deserving's American.
I Can"t find Igonikin Jack on google , perhaps I"ve got a funny one
I am not considering any of Deserving's opinions and content of posts, only the style of writing, as I would a review of a literary piece of writing.
to elevate and demean all in the same sentence - To patronise.
Just Googled 'Igonikon Jack':
'His staggering self-delusion is at once amusing and worrying. His Walter Mitty-like tendencies are emphasised by his inability to pick up on blatant sarcasm from other Daily Telegraph commentators when they thank him for his contributions and patented ability to cut and paste guff from Wikipedia onto the comment pages.'
Surely not?
Eats shoots, not grass.
deserving Do you post to the Daily Telegraph forums under the name "Igonikon Jack"? I find the way you write very like his style.
Briefly, when i asked,"have you ever heard a precis of Romeo & Juliet, it was not rhetorical,or the assumption that great works are not redefined to suit the era, and people of that era, you only have to look at the various NEW interpretations of the bible designed to placate our degenerating society to see this is common practice. ( it also keeps the money rolling in)
It was an actual "?" I heard a hilarious sketch , must be quite a while ago now, performed by someone whose name/s evade me,( so no attributions then) and wondered if anyone else had heard it?
Consider the word "consider' as meaning, having regard for, hope your misinterpretation has not ruined those years of control you have struggled for? Maybe just a little retrograde step? Isn't English a complicated language,(eats grass and etc) didn't realise that some words had a "use by date" and that 2012 is such an important year.
Picking out the bumph, does not seem to be a skill that has been received and interpretation seems to be "think what you expect' not what is implied,or intended, bit like looking in a mirror and seeing your self there. "I don't wish to be regarded as... is not the same as saying " I am, or think I am regarded," is it? "what the hell are you talking about" is not a reflection on me more on those with an obverse approach.
(thanks for the attribute for publish and be dammed, I knew but i am trying not to keep doing "It"in case that raises ire, and becomes unacceptable )
I think I heard something about the reduced Shakespeare Co, I,d look it up on Wikithingy, but i dare not.
Sorry, (and here I use a name)Ariadne,I seem to be spending more time fending off misconceptions than concentrating on the thread.Hence the more lengthy posts, yet as I said ,"I have had longer shopping lists".
Some things are unworthy of refutation, but based on the concept of "they know not what they do" (bible) and in the spirit of good manners and diplomacy,(although the purpose of diplomacy has been described (by someone) as the ability to extend a crisis) I try to respond. (disregard the first word of this piece) I admire the ability of some to elevate and demean all in the same sentence, their must be a word for that?

I found that when reading GNs freebies!
Annobel I've ordered one of those too. It will be quite a novelty reading a real book again.
deserving your last paragraphs in your last two posts amply demonstrate that you can convey your thoughts and opinions succinctly and clearly. And I agree with the sentiments therein expressed.
I did use he/ she because I would not have wished to incur your more than eloquent wrath!
I found a good used copy on Amazon for only a little more than the cost of postage. I look forward to reading it. In the Plaza Real in Salamanca, there are busts all the way round of Spanish heroes. The only non-Spaniard is Wellington, or, as he was, during the Peninsular War, Sir Arthur Wellesley.
The book on the Duke of Wellington is no longer free. A week or so ago it was on the eReaderIQ.co.uk list of Amazon freebies. Authors get the chance to list their book free on kindle for 5 days, which brings it to the attention of skinflints like me who would not otherwise not have looked twice at it. I should have downloaded it then, It is now £8.99 www.amazon.co.uk/Wellington-A-Personal-History-ebook/dp/B004D39PHE/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1344095917&sr=1-3
The blurb says "Wellington's marriage was unhappy and distant and he became a widower at a fairly young age. These facts caused him to seek and enjoy the companionship of many women through his lifetime. These relationships and their effects on Wellington account for a large portion of this book." so it is not all military victories.
Do tell or perhaps not , [bites nails in mortal dread] WHO is on yr consideration scale ?
Ever heard of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, deserving?
He was quite a lad, wasn't he? A very eligible bachelor. There is a (free) book about him listed on the Kindle page that could be interesting. I shall find its name and return.
Just as I suspected, a thwarted male
deserving publish and be dammed was I think the Duke of Wellington as a response to blackmail by his mistress Harriet someone I think?
I would not even want a precis of Romeo and Juliet, though it is a good exercise in comprehension to have to summarise the plot in a few grammatical sentences.
I am sure your teacher training (was it to teach English?) included how to make sure that your pupils understood what they had read by asking them to summarise it. Not all that they read is timeless literature, quite a lot is (or will be when they are adult) verbose bumff and being able to pick out the meaning behind the jargon is a useful skill to be taught.
I am glad you are not as angry as you seemed, except at the way politicos are tinkering with benefits.
Yes, I have almost certainly lost the will to live. I can hardly believe that someone on this forum is implying that they truly believe that they have been thought of or described as an untermensch. How paranoid is that? And is it arrogant, or at least self-important too in 2012? By the way, deserving maybe West Side Story, if not precisely a précis, is a different version of ^Romeo and Juliet (but I have to say that I think it's one Shakespeare's less successful and least interesting plays).
For the record, I don't do bile. Anger comes unwelcomingly quickly to me but I have struggled and learned over many years to handle it and not let it become dangerous. I don't see why I should be "considered" but okay, if you want to. I have not posted a profile. So what? I rarely eat cake.
What the hell are you talking about?
You will note that I've hardly ever directed any bile towards anyone in particular,or indeed replied directly to less than the "WE"who have aligned themselves diametrically ,usually, to my opinions.I am slow to anger and don't consider to have been involved in anything that rates sufficiently to warrant a position on my "consideration scale". Don't jump in and assume that you,and you know who YOU are, are not being considered. I am attempting to placate those, who because, as I reiterate. Have not the physical clues to comprehend what it is that is being postulated on every occasion.
I don't wish to be regarded as "untermensch", as, no doubt, do you.
As I have not posted a profile, you probably feel that you are at liberty to make as many assumptions as you think fit. Maybe to winkle something out. To drip feed, if indeed there is any curiosity,I like cake, but not all cake.
Bit of precis called for, for those who have been taught to avoid long marking hours, by restricting the use of one of the richest languages in the world.
I,m not angry with anyone,I regret that some tory twit has tried to cut our pensions, and benefits,I had only one proviso that rankled some.(that should be sufficient, but I can't help myself
I feel the precis is boring. Have you ever heard a precis of Romeo and Juliet?
