So much for the greatest democracy in the world.

Yes, nag, but it amounts to vote rigging in effect.

Well, to be fair, the article looked at how voter registration is being manipulated in the US.

Off to pedant's corner go I....'has' not 'have' been taking lessons....

Alison - I feel, in having the right and freedom to vote, whether one chooses to takes it up or not, is vitally important. Putting a cap on the frequency of voting is not something I would sign up for, ever. The article looked at how voting can, and is, being manipulated in the US, and it wouldn't be a big stretch to see your suggestion being used in a covert way by unprincipled politicians who have the backing of powerful cartels.

Bags too tired to read the article so hope I'm not going off on the wrong track but why don't we make it a legal requirment to vote like some other countries? Alternatively we could take away the vote from those who don't bother for, say, 5 years? Make it a privelige and then it might be something people care about?

Unfortunately, one doesn't have to dig very deep to see the dirty-tricks and tactics used when apartheid was alive and kicking in the US is still being used today. Masquerading as political expediency (and I use that word tongue-in-cheek) , the manipulation and suppression/selection of citizens in controlling how easy it is for them to vote is indeed shocking. It's been around for a long time. Perhaps America have been taking lessons from Russia or China as well as their own history books.

This article in the New Statesman about how voting rights are restricted in the US and how we may be in for something similar here if we're not careful, is shocking.
