Sigh.
Whether Assange is a guilty of a sexual assault in Sweden, or not, the UK government should keep their heads down and stop bowing to US pressure.
JA is holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London. Now they are threatening to use some 1987 legislation to use it to revoke the diplomatic status of the embassy. The Ecuadoreans have done nothing wrong.
To do this, I think, would make British Embassies around the world very vulnerable. Do as you would be done by.

JO4 You may have chosen not to post sometimes on some threads, but no one could ever accuse you of being timid. So no, I'm not.

Bags Thu 23-Aug-12 12:47:23

Thank you, butty. Quite an illuminating article. I must be a dyed in the wool cynic because none of it surprised me.

JO4 Thu 23-Aug-12 12:08:36

That was to absent of course.

JO4 Thu 23-Aug-12 12:07:58

"As we are once again getting hints that people won't post their views because the majority won't agree with them – a fairly feeble viewpoint in the first place –"

You calling me feeble Missis?! shock

Butternut Thu 23-Aug-12 11:00:16

The best article I've read so far surrounding this whole issue.

Could well have done. I just associate the name Humphries with the actor. I used to love that program.

Anagram Thu 23-Aug-12 10:52:37

John Inman actually played 'Mr Humphries' didn't he? confused

petallus Thu 23-Aug-12 10:45:23

Just typed something and it disappeared ??

I said thanks JO4. Of course Inman. Think I got confused because Inman's character in Are You Being Served? was always talking to a Mr Humphries. grin

JO4 Thu 23-Aug-12 09:26:21

He's John Inman! Don't bring lovely old John Humphrys into it! hmm

Lips very different in picture (which is very funny. thanks Trishs)

pettalus a grin was needed, not a smile. No one is going that far. hmm

Annobel Thu 23-Aug-12 08:59:12

Thanks for the analysis, absent. I must admit to having a hard time knowing just what to think about Mr Assange. I don't think he is a genius or a hero and I do think it has to be established whether or not he has a case to answer in Sweden. However, I am aware that he uncovered some highly unpalatable facts that the US administration would rather have kept under wraps. Is he a champion of freedom of information? Sorry, I'm rambling. absent, I need you to put me straight!

I have just read through this whole thread again and, for the record, there doesn't seem to be a consensus. Rather, there is a considerable range of views – some quite extreme, one way or the other, and a lot in the middle with plenty of provisos. And, like many other threads, masses of stuff that has nothing to do with the subject. As we are once again getting hints that people won't post their views because the majority won't agree with them – a fairly feeble viewpoint in the first place – please note that there does not seem to be a majority to disagree.

petallus Thu 23-Aug-12 08:47:47

Meant tot put a smile at the end

petallus Thu 23-Aug-12 08:47:19

Those who feel sure they can judge character and even guilt by looks could save the judicial system a fortune.

No more costly court cases!

Bags Traditional Chinese medicine uses rhino horn as a febrifuge, not an aphrodisiac. Not that it matters because it isn't either.

Nelliemoser Thu 23-Aug-12 08:37:19

Julian Assange looks to me like a guy who is full of his own importance and who thinks he is infallible. He might just be the sort of person who would find it hard to believe that not everyone might find him attractive.

Nanadogsbody Thu 23-Aug-12 08:01:51

Got it in one petallus

petallus Thu 23-Aug-12 08:00:57

You mean because John Humphries is/was a likeable character?

Therefore, if JA has a similar face ........

Nanadogsbody Thu 23-Aug-12 07:58:57

Think that scuppers someone's theories?

JessM Thu 23-Aug-12 07:57:02

LOL - wrong John. But now you come to mention it...

petallus Thu 23-Aug-12 07:48:26

That gave me an early morning smile. Hadn't realised JA looked so much like John Humphries.

Nanadogsbody Thu 23-Aug-12 07:27:44

Don't apologise trish nice to have a bit of humour first thing this morning. Don't they look alike too?

trishs Thu 23-Aug-12 00:21:12

sorry, have to share https://p.twimg.com/A0w0h0GCAAE_Gff.jpg smile

Annobel Wed 22-Aug-12 22:04:00

Glad to oblige, jingl.

JO4 Wed 22-Aug-12 21:52:19

I was waiting for that one Annobel! grin

Annobel Wed 22-Aug-12 21:50:17

Sadly, jingle we have no way of judging you by your appearance... but I think we've been over that ground before! grin
