Brady's legal advocate was detained in south Wales on suspicion of preventing the burial of a body without lawful exercise.

That is so sad. She has lived all these years with the hope that she would some day have her child restored to her and that evil man has tortured her to the end.

At the same time, I am glad to live in a civilised country, where even murderers are looked after, where their human rights are respected, and where those who are deemed to lack responsibilty for their actions are treated as such. Although the mother in me would like to tear Brady limb from limb, I am glad the state will not allow this. Otherwise we sink to their level, and lose all sense of what is good and what is evil. I believe we have to be better than they are.

Winnie Johnson's life was sad. Death must have come as a comfort and welcome release.

So sad.

Peace at last Winnie.

That is one of the saddest pieces of news I"ve heard in a long time . So the poor , poor woman never did get to find out where her child was buried . What a B-----d is Brady sad

Just caught the very sad news that Winnie Johnson, mother of Keith Bennett, one of Ian Brady's victims has died. Just cannot imagine how she has lived for almost the last 50 years not knowing where her sons remains were. Brady however, still holding the secret of the poor little boys resting place. How do we ever make sense of this, almost fifty years on and now we will never know. Just let Brady die, hopefully in pain, for the life sentence he has inflicted on this family. Im not going to get into the discussion about the death sentence, but it makes you think. Rest in peace Winnie Johnson, at last reunited with your son. flowers

Just heard on the news that Keith's mother has died. What an evil man not to have given her some peace in the final years of her life.

I see now that they have found no trace of the alleged letter and Jackie Powell now says she gave it back to Brady! It's beginning to sound as though she got rather carried away during the making of the documentary.....

goldengirl Fri 17-Aug-12 20:29:13

I can't believe why they're making another documentary about him and why we have to know about this supposed letter. Brady just seems to want publicity and his nasty mind thinks this is the best way to go about it. This letter business could have been kept quiet and not given to the media but no. Mrs Johnson [formerly Bennett - not sure if I've got the names right] is apparently in a hospice and they're trying to keep it from her. There are TVs in hospices and word could easily get round. How upsetting is that!

Notsogrand.

My hubby was a policeman and I too know the contents of the tapes were known of between forces. Grown men cried.

Notsogrand Fri 17-Aug-12 19:40:12

He's being force fed because he's an in-patient at a hospital and deemed to be mentally incapable of making the decision to refuse food in order to die.

That's why he wants to return to prison. If 'fit' for prison he will be deemed 'fit' to go on hunger strike and end his own life.

I knew police officers who'd heard the tapes Brady & Hindley made of their torture of Lesley Ann. They told me a couple of the 'mildest' things. Sick beyond belief. These were mature officers with years and years of service and they were traumatised by what they'd heard on the tapes.

There is absolutely no reason why Brady should be allowed to choose the manner of his own death.

crimson Fri 17-Aug-12 19:17:33

I know I've made it clear that I'm against the death penaltly but not sure that, in this case, I'm against torture. Surely the most evil man on the planet. Foul and disgusting.

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-12 19:06:54

Short and sweet, I hope.

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 19:03:51

His Will probably consists of instructions for his funeral!

merlotgran Fri 17-Aug-12 18:59:22

Will? Has he got anything to leave?? I hope if they find the letter they open it immediately. angry

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 13:29:14

I also heard on the news that she'd told the Police about the meeting with Brady in question at the time, and no action was taken then. They still haven't found any letter, and there's only speculation that it contains information about the burial site. These documentaries always stir things up, I just feel sad for Keith's mother being given possibly false hope yet again.

Marelli Fri 17-Aug-12 13:21:25

Cutting Edge was the documentary, absent. Just seen on the news just now that the solicitor/mental health advocate isn't employed by Ashworth Hospital. She and Brady speak alone together with no-one else being party to any conversation. She's also the executor for his will.

absentgrana Fri 17-Aug-12 12:45:48

I think it has become known to the police because they were informed by Channel 4 which was making a documentary.

POGS Fri 17-Aug-12 12:23:51

Not release him of course, stop force feeding him. blush

POGS Fri 17-Aug-12 12:22:13

Watched a psychiatrist this morning talking about Brady. As he says he is in permanent need of publicity to feed his needs.

What I didn't understand was the fact he stated this had been known for a long time, what had?.The fact this letter was in existence?. He went on to mention a new T.V. programme which will be shown soon. Was he implying the police thought they had better act before they were accused of not acting?

I don't know but I do know this man is pure evil and does not deserve one minute of kindness. I would not go against his wishes, let him go.

Zengran Fri 17-Aug-12 11:51:15

I cannot fathom why a murderer has been kept alive by being tube fed for 12 years when another man, with "locked in syndrome", cannot be given the right to die.

Marelli Fri 17-Aug-12 11:39:46

Foul creature.

Elegran Fri 17-Aug-12 11:31:21

It would be just like him to want everyone to think one thing while he does another and gets the last laugh.

Anagram Fri 17-Aug-12 10:38:15

There's no guarantee that he's given any information as to the whereabouts of Keith's body - no one knows what he's written.

Elegran Fri 17-Aug-12 10:31:49

I have always thought that if confessed and convicted murderers want to die, no-one should extend their lives. Official execution puts the onus and guilt onto another person, but if they execute themselves, they will not have to be kept at public expense and inconvenience for years. The only one who can legitimately or morally take a life is the owner of it.

petallus Fri 17-Aug-12 10:23:57

I think I read somewhere recently that Ian Brady wishes to die and tried to starve himself to death. However, for some time now he has been force fed.

Maybe he is hoping he will be allowed to die now in order for this info to become available.
