I always liked him, used to love his tv programme with the cookie monster/bear. Lovely voice too.

Yes, I have a couple of his tapes and CD's - lovely velvety voice. I can't help comparing the singers on 'The X factor' who just seem to shout and scream.

He was a favourite of mine. flowers

Moon River takes me right back? Talk about nostalgia!

Oh that's sad. I love his voice.

I hadn't realised he was still alive blush....

Oh, that's a shame. We used to love his show flowers

O no - I used to love watching that - I remember when the Osmonds were on it with the cookie monster.

I remember being told by one of the musicians who had toured with AW in Europe, that when he came off-stage to tremendous applause, he would smile and remark 'Fooled 'em again!'

Not the big-time 'star' at all, which made him very popular with the band.

Blast this lack of editing facilities!

I used to love his Christmas specials.

Me too - he really was so likeable. And he could sing in tune!

PRINTMISS Thu 27-Sept-12 15:20:57

That was what Saturday nights were all about - gentle entertainment by people who could entertain without screaming into the microphone (you could actually see their mouths!) and we could understand the words. A bit of gentle humour thrown in, and the world was o.k. for a few hours.

I had a thing for Val Doonigan...and his sweaters were very nice too. smile
And, I remember having a crush on the shorter of the Black and White Minstrel trio. He was a tenor and his name was John [Boulter?] I think! confused

I loved Andy Williams, he had a great voice, but I thought he had died years ago! Does anyone remember Pat Boone, he was another with a smooth easy listening voice, but I can't remember what he sung.

soop Thu 27-Sept-12 17:01:11

Grannyeggs He sang a beautiful song in a film in which he was a Quaker. Now I'm going to drive myself potty as I try to remember it. hmm

soop Thu 27-Sept-12 17:04:53

Was it 'Friendly Persuasion?' 'Thee I love...'?

Ella46 Thu 27-Sept-12 17:08:00

He was my first love..smile Pat Boone (swoon)

Grannyeggs Thu 27-Sept-12 17:09:27

It might have been, I just remembered he sang April love, which I should know as it is my name,April, not love.confused I shall look him up on Google.

Grannyeggs Thu 27-Sept-12 17:12:48

It was friendly Persuasion [soop], you are right.

soop Thu 27-Sept-12 17:12:52

...and then there was Danny Williams. He had a beautiful voice.

soop Thu 27-Sept-12 17:20:18

...and Johnny Mathis. smile

soop Thu 27-Sept-12 17:24:35

He had the most beautiful brown eyes. I liked to hear him singing, 'Chances Are'...

sunshine His show would always make me laugh or cheer me up but my husband says he can't remember the Cookie Bear. I have asked a lot of people in the past if they remember but they look at me blankly - I'm not that ancient (64) and I'm surprised a lot of people can't even remember his show. RIP Andy flowers
