Try this to see where you are politically, not just left or right, but authoritarian / libertarian. It's fascinating

Makes me wonder why we all have such different opinions when we're all in the same quadrant. Or as greatnan said would anyone dare to admit to being a right wing authoritarian?

Lilygran Fri 26-Oct-12 08:04:49

Leftie lib too. I answered honestly and thought I would come out nearer the middle. I see Obama and Cameron come out very close together!

Could you be a left-wing authoritarian (like Lenin, for example) according to this test? Or a right-wing libertarian (lots in the current Conservative party support libertarianism)? Does it actually define left and right? (I haven't done it yet.)

absentgrana Fri 26-Oct-12 09:37:50

It would have been more sensible to do the test before posting the questions above. It would also have been more sensible to check what my answers showed me to be before returning to this page. I don't think I am properly awake yet. [dunce emoticon]

glassortwo Fri 26-Oct-12 10:16:04

Leftie libertarian.

Bags Fri 26-Oct-12 10:33:16

I don't think a compass is a very good way of mapping political outlook. Extreme right is very close to extreme left. I think a Klein bottle, or even a Klein bagel would be better. It would be about as useful anyway wink

My result? – bang in the middle of the bottom left quadrant. But I thought the questions were loaded and there were some which didn't have an adequate answer for me. Limited, then.

Leftie Libertarian
"Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -6.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.44"

The questions were a bit obvious - fun to do though!

janthea Fri 26-Oct-12 10:49:02

In the middle more authoritarian!

petallus Fri 26-Oct-12 10:49:47

Hopefully the test was reliable and valid but, yes, questionnaires are always limited.

Did wonder if the test was devised with the USA in mind and that might account for the sameness of our positions.

Greatnan Fri 26-Oct-12 13:17:41

Let's look on the bright side - surely our results are the same because we are all kind, compassionate, intelligent and all-round lovely people! smile

Grannyeggs Fri 26-Oct-12 13:57:15

Was just right of left! In the bottom section, does that make me a slightly right wing libertarian.hmm

ayse Fri 26-Oct-12 14:24:33

Econimic Left/Right: -9.0
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.3

I love doing these daft quizzes. I've sent it to my youngest daughter to see if we are similar. DH says says talking to my daughter is like talking to me. We can be almost guaranteed to have the same point of view.

ayse Fri 26-Oct-12 14:24:56

Economic - duh

Sel Fri 26-Oct-12 14:30:33

Sel Fri 26-Oct-12 14:32:40

Moomin sorry, post above was address to you!

annodomini Fri 26-Oct-12 15:30:17

I've sent it to the family copper to see if he's authoritarian.

granjura Fri 26-Oct-12 16:08:08

A bit humbling to find myself on the chart bewtween Ghandi and the Dalai Lama smile ...

jeni Fri 26-Oct-12 17:14:15

Amazing! I seem to be marginally libertarian and slightly left wing!shock
I've always voted Tory?confused

soop Fri 26-Oct-12 18:32:03

I am 2.5 left libertarian. Don't know whether that's good, bad or indifferent. hmm Perhaps Bags will enlighten me. smile

absentgrana Fri 26-Oct-12 18:44:44

I seem to be an incompetent half wit.

Gally Fri 26-Oct-12 18:57:09

Dead Centre wink

Bags Fri 26-Oct-12 19:35:39

No, Bags won't enlighten you, soop, because Bags thinks it's just another meaningless labelling exercise which is not very useful for anything except perhaps a bit of fun smile. Mind you, if you want to call that enlightening, I won't be offended wink

NfkDumpling Fri 26-Oct-12 19:58:23

I'm just a libertarian. It was probably the question on hanging that did it.

Frankel Fri 26-Oct-12 20:15:12

The two largest UK political parties are right-wing and authoritarian whereas most of the population, whether Labour or Conservative, seem to be left of centre and libertarian. I don't think I've found anyone I know, including life-long Conservative voters, who sit outside the bottom, left-hand quadrant.

It seems few of us find a party that fit our attitudes snuggly. Maybe, we seek firm leadership more than we know. Or maybe, the results don't mean very much at all.

Gagagran Fri 26-Oct-12 20:36:31

Gally glad to be in the centre with you!! wine Cheers!
