Cards for Justice.....long post

(35 Posts)

I've copied this from Facebook....please read and send cards.

For many of us, only a few weeks ago, the idea that a well-connected children’s programme presenter and charity “worker”, with seemingly unrestricted access to the most vulnerable, and needy in our community, could have been a child abuser (and possibly worse)’ would have been unthinkable.

Yet, we are now all realising that it is likely that Jimmy Savile was indeed one of the worst serial predatory child abusers ever to be exposed in this country. It also seems that he may be just the tip of the iceberg.

We have all been children; many of us are parents. The horror of what victims of child abuse face is all of our worst nightmares rolled into one.

That is why we propose each of us takes action. None of us want for this to happen any longer. To ANY child.

What can you do?

Join with us to appeal for the truth about child abuse to be exposed. No more hiding behind lawyers or celebrity or money or power. We want those responsible for abusing our children brought to justice.

It is very easy, and cheap. All you need to do is send an In Sympathy or any other suitable greetings card with one of our messages (or your own) to one or both of the addresses below: 10 Downing Street and BBC Complaints

We do not wish for anyone to sink to the depths of law breaking. We do not want anyone to be hurt. We don’t want protests, in the streets or anywhere else. We need to take non-violent direct action in such a way that all of our voices together cannot be ignored or brushed under the carpet.

When?

We have decided that the most appropriate time for the influx of greetings card from all across the UK (and abroad for anyone else concerned about this heinous problem) is from Remembrance Sunday (11th November) and during Children in Need week, preferably aiming for cards to arrive between Saturday 10th and 16th November , which is the date of the televised CIN appeal.

Who do you send your card(s) to?

We believe that the BBC, as the organisation to whom the British populace pays a TV licence:
* has a duty of care to the public
* has historically been seen as a source for trusted investigative journalism
* is one of those organisations named in the Savile allegations
* as the organiser of the Children In Need appeal
is one deserving recipient of these cards. Via the BBC Complaints department.

The other recipient is our Prime Minister at Number 10 Downing Street.

if you can send two cards, one to each address, please do.

BBC Complaints Department
PO Box 1922
Darlington
DL3 0UR

David Cameron
10 Downing Street
London
SW1A 2AA

We feel that is is an individual’s choice whether to sign the card with yr name and address. If you do so, please let us know of any response from No 10 or the BBC, thanks,

How will you make a difference?

Both the BBC Complaints department and Number 10 have to open all these cards. Both organisations are required to log all correspondence.

By the simple action of sending a greetings card, your feelings about child abuse will be noticed.

Whether the avalanche of cards will change policy, (either broadcasting or political) is unknown; but you will know that for less than £2 and a trip to the letter box, you have taken direct action. You will have stated to this Government and our national publicly-funded broadcaster that you care what is happening to our children and that you want it investigated so that those responsible are dealt with by the justice system. And that the people of this country want an end to child abuse.

By telling everyone in your network- family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, schools, even strangers on the bus – to join in this peaceful action, we can ensure that the strength of feeling on this issue cannot be ignored.

Use the hashtag #c4j (cards for justice) and please take a photo of your message(s) and/or your card(s) being posted and post online to show your public support, if you are happy to do so.

Bump because it disappeared.

whenim64 Tue 06-Nov-12 18:28:23

Have joined the Facebook group and posted it on my Facebook page, asking people to support this campaign.

Oldgreymare Tue 06-Nov-12 18:51:14

Will do.... cards to be posted next week, will enjoy looking for an appropriate one, thanks Notso

johanna Tue 06-Nov-12 19:15:02

Thanks notso
Will send cards, very important, I feel.
Had massive argument nice discussion with OH over supper, who thinks after this has all blown over the abuse will carry on as normal because it has done so since Roman/Greek times and always will.

As I pointed out to him an " arrangement " between two people , even if one of those people is below the so called legal age is totally different from institutional abuse.

If we can help to stop institutional abuse we will have achieved something, at least.

And may be we can then extend this campaign to stop the institutional abuse of the dear old people in care homes.

Hopefully this will gather momentum as the days go by. It would be good to get it trending on Twitter.

Bump

The Facebook campaign is growing. Lets get behind this campaign against cover-ups of child abuse. Our children deserve a society that is not governed by corrupt politicians who scratch each others' backs and prevent justice being done for victims over many years. Why should taxpayers be funding the privileged lifestyles of certain rich, high profile politicians who have committed the most horrendous sexual offences against children?

whenim64 Thu 08-Nov-12 12:46:19

Bumping this, please join in. It's growing rapidly on Facebook and they're trying to get it trending on Twitter. Look at the site - a very interesting video on there today which says more about celebs hiding behind a famous PR person who routinely keeps them out of the papers.

whenim64 Thu 08-Nov-12 14:53:23

Tweets sent and two cards in the post to arrive at BBC Complaints and 10 Downing Street this weekend, asking Beeb and Cameron to have some moral backbone and see justice through for the victims of children's home abuse, and in exposing all the offending politicians and celebs so they can be brought to justice.

whenim64 Fri 09-Nov-12 16:56:49

This responsible, polite campaign is gathering momentum. It sticks to the important point - victims of care home abuse, and children who weren't protected on BBC premises, still need justice, not cover-ups, and we are being asked to send cards to BBC Complaints and 10 Downing Street over the next few days. Very full postbags will demonstrate that citizens are watching what our MPs and public figures are doing to bring the abusers to justice and help us to bring about a culture of child protection. Please do join in and send two greetings cards to show the strength of feeling that we want an end to abuse and corruption.

Notsogrand Fri 09-Nov-12 17:43:17

when your support for this campaign is wonderful!
I've sent my cards and so have lots of friends and family. Don't be put off by all the rumours and counter rumours and denials and talk of mistaken identity.
Many of the rumours - including those about innocent people - will have been put out there by the guilty ones. Paedophiles are very, very clever. Throwing out a blizzard of names and information provides a wonderfully confusing smoke screen for them to hide behind. The abuse these people perpetrate is horrendous. Let's do everything we can to stop them feeling so smug and protected by their connections and cronies.

Butty Fri 09-Nov-12 17:51:46

Notso This is a great idea and my wholehearted thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I'm not able to post it on my fb page, but my cards have been sent.

Social networking sometimes gets a bad press, yet when used responsibly it can bring about marvellous changes. I hope this expands and develops so that children who have experienced sexual abuse no longer feel they are without voice.

whenim64 Fri 09-Nov-12 17:55:35

Spot on Notso! I have known convicted sex offenders to take part in getting petitions signed and organising vigilante demonstrations against other sex offenders. There is no honour between them - they will only protect each other if they fear being outed.

The caution we all need to exercise is not about us discussing who it might or might not be. Those professionals with plenty of access to evidence will sift through it. It's the willingness to be fobbed off with lies and deceit we should we wary of.

The likes of Philip Schofield might have botched things up but his heart is in the right place regarding this issue.

Here's today's bump! grin As you can see, this is a campaign that is important to me. Having spent my whole career watching sex offenders duck and dive to avoid taking responsibility for the harm they perpetrated on so many children, I cannot pass up an opportunity to raise awareness and hold the relevant politicians and authority figures to account. Do please join and put your two cards in the post.

whenim64 Sat 10-Nov-12 13:45:31

Bump! grin

Butty Sat 10-Nov-12 15:18:23

Good for you, when !

Notsogrand Sat 10-Nov-12 15:21:50

Gransnet HQ....is this a campaign you could actively support and promote?

I spent my whole career trying to untangle the lives of the children affected by the sex offenders when watched ducking and diving. Please believe me when I say that the damage and depravity experienced by these children is beyond description.

I will echo when's thoughts....please do join in and put your two cards in the post.

Marelli Sat 10-Nov-12 15:30:07

Mine will catch Monday morning's post.

Butty Sat 10-Nov-12 15:44:49

notso. I'll second that.
