It is reported that parents have announced on Facebook that they have named their new baby daughter, who "weys" 8 lb, Hashtag. Surely this is a joke.

Bloody done it now! Can't get "As Long As He Needs Me" out of my head!

I'm pretty sure that Georgia Brown was one of the first Nancy's in the stage production of "Oliver" , although of course she didn't do the film.

(I have a bit of a thing about the film, whenever it was on at Christmas, Jack and I would snuggle up on the sofa and watch it together)

Yes, indeed, when - the Twisted Wheel was the place to go in those days (apart from the Magic Village, of course!).

Ana I saw LJB a few times, with Brian Auger Trinity, Julie Driscoll, and a very spotty, gawky Rod Stewart, when they were at the Twisted Wheel in Manchester in the late 60s. LJB was very tall and, with his bowler hat that he would keep on when singing, must have been nearly 7 feet high. All the mod boys would copy him, wearing pin-stripe suits, and carrying a brolly and bowler. Lovely times! smile

Long John Baldry, that name brings back memories, when! What a voice - absolutely loved him.

That was Shani Wallace, number. Georgia Brown was a great jazz singer with the most amazing voice. I used to listen to her on Saturday Club wih Brian Matthew, and once I saw her singing with Long John Baldry at the Manchester Sports Guild club. Fabulous woman smile

I liked her as well. Wasn`t she in the musical "Oliver"?

Georgie Brown - I once sat next to her on a flight from Glasgow, where we had been doing a TV programme, to London - she was not a confident flier...
When they lowered the undercarriage she nearly broke my arm, she grabbed it so hard! 'Just another Jewish mother', she claimed...

Nice lady, and a talent.

John Waynes real first name was Marian/Marion.

The wrestler "Big Daddy" was Shirley Crabtree (I think, but will be prepared to be proved wrong)

The vicar of the main parish church in Boston a few years ago was named Fluck, and one year Diana Dors came to do some readings at the town arts festival, and rumours abounded that she was the vicar`s sister, turned out not to be so.
The singer Georgia Brown, from a few years back, her real name was Lilian Clot, doesn`t sound very showbizzy, no wonder she changed it, and Judy Garland was really Frances Gumm!

When I was little I used to play with Paul McCartney (MacCartney/McArtney etc - can't remember). He moved away from Glasgow to Sheffield in the late 50s or early 60s, but before the Beatles came along and I often wonder how difficult he found it after they did.

Anne58 Thu 29-Nov-12 14:04:19

I've just tracked it down , it was in a book of "Mondegreens" , but says it is taken from Diana Dors autobiography!?

feetlebaum Thu 29-Nov-12 12:35:53

Blast - a double post -- WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET DELETE AND EDIT BUTTONS HERE?

feetlebaum Thu 29-Nov-12 12:34:42

Not every Fluck changes it - remember the TV show Spitting Image was made by Fluck and Law.

I have to say I think the Diana Dors story is probably an urban legend, although I don't have any evidence.

soop Thu 29-Nov-12 12:31:10

phoenix I've heard that story. Bet the vicar wished the ground had opened up and swallowed him whole.blush

Diana Dors real name was Fluck! There is a wonderful story about her opening the village fete in the place where she grew up. The vicar did the introduction, saying what a pleaseure it was to welcome her back, etc, then said something along the lines of "Although today she is Diana Dors, many of us still think of her as Diana Clunt"

janthea Thu 29-Nov-12 11:50:55

gracesmum I saw that in the paper and thought the same as you. I think it was the Geldorf girl who is name her forthcoming son Phaedra!!

petallus Thu 29-Nov-12 11:37:02

Willy being rude in those days.

petallus Thu 29-Nov-12 11:36:14

I knew somebody whose surname as Fluck. He changed it later on in life.

My sil's mother's surname was Hiscock and she married someone called Grucock (or Grewcock, not sure which)

I used to be called Williams and even that was a cause for embarrassment as a child as other children would say Willyums.

gracesmum Thu 29-Nov-12 10:59:44

Oh absent - if I had a brain I'd be dangerous!!!gringrin
Of course that was what I meant - but just about the opposite of what I saidblush

absentgrana Thu 29-Nov-12 10:50:04

gracesmum I think you might mean Johnny Cash's A Boy named Sue.

Yes, I heard about the plan to call the son Phaedra – and giggled. I wouldn't use it for a girl either as she's hardly the ideal role model.

gracesmum Thu 29-Nov-12 10:43:36

"song" even.sad
