Why are people in the press/social network so aghast because he has admitted to killing a few taliban. What did they think he was doing in that helicopter. Sitting in the seat with a gun? confused

Lilygran Tue 22-Jan-13 10:27:26

It was a really, really stupid question. Or else deliberately provocative. What was he going to answer?

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 10:29:51

He would have been wasting his time if he actually got on target once or twice! grin

Kali Tue 22-Jan-13 11:05:34

I wish I'd seen this programme. Is it going to be repeated?

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 11:11:08

It was a homecoming interview they did in Afghanistan when he'd just done his last fly. On the news. The newspapers seem to have most of it on videos. But only a section at a time. hmm

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 11:13:38

there's this on bbc Must have been part of it.

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 11:14:11

Can you see that link? I can't hardly see it. hmm

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 11:16:10

some more here (scroll down for two vids)

tanith Tue 22-Jan-13 11:51:45

Doesn't anyone else feel that its unecessarily provocative to come right out and say it? Isn't it making himself more of a target to terrorists? It would of been better had they not asked that question...

Lilygran Tue 22-Jan-13 12:06:28

I don't think he can be blamed for answering the question. He's in a no win situation. He couldn't be rude or dismissive because then that would have been the main story. He's a soldier. It can't really be a shock to anyone!

Riverwalk Tue 22-Jan-13 13:31:15

Rather stupid of him to say that being an Appache helicopter pilot is a joy because he enjoys Xbox and Playstation.

He's not very bright.

absent Tue 22-Jan-13 13:34:42

Riverwalk Intelligence is not the defining characteristic of the royal family.

MaggieP Tue 22-Jan-13 13:44:24

Whatever he said he will be criticised, damned if you do and damned if you don't, springs to mind!
Sounds like he was expected to give an interview at the end of his Tour, according to TV last night. Why should he?

annodomini Tue 22-Jan-13 13:49:41

According to the BBC news at lunchtime, the interview is available on i-Player.

Barrow Tue 22-Jan-13 13:54:44

As I understand it he had an agreement with the media that he would give an interview at the end of his tour in return for them leaving him alone whilst he was there.

Mishap Tue 22-Jan-13 14:45:04

It is sickening that anyone is put in a position where they are obliged to kill - let alone these young people. Harry has always come across as immature. I doubt he has any idea of the implications of what he says.

I have always found it disturbing that there is a tradition of joining the armed services among royals - being part of the armed forces is by definition a political act. They should be outside this.

glammanana Tue 22-Jan-13 15:53:06

I think he is far from not being bright,he has passed all training for the very dangerous job that he does and he does it well.He is a valuable member to his collegues who treat him the same as everyone else, lets hope the media leave him alone and let him be treated the same as all the other brave men and women who have just completed their tour of duty.

vampirequeen Tue 22-Jan-13 16:02:53

Harry is a soldier and does what he's trained to do. He's not the brightest button in the box but then neither was his mother. At least he doesn't pretend to be something he's not. He's a Hurray Henry in civvy street and a soldier when on duty.

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 16:07:12

Well, I think games on playstation, Xbox and the like is probably very good for developing hand-eye co-ordination. And I guess you would need that when sitting in the gunner seat of an Apache helicopter. smile

So, I think it was a very reasonable thing to say. #startsomewhere

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 16:08:20

And how many "brightest buttons in the box" are on here then? hmm

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 16:09:32

No Mishap. Much better idea to welcome the terrorists into the lives of our children and grandchildren with open arms. The very thought of killing some of them! hmm

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 16:10:21

And I very much doubt that he is thick.

Agree with glamma.

numberplease Tue 22-Jan-13 16:47:50

Once upon a time, I had nothing good to say about this young man, now, happily, it`s quite the opposite. He may still be a bit of a Hooray Henry when off duty, but he has matured no end in the last couple of years.

absent Tue 22-Jan-13 16:51:20

numberplease He's recently had his twenty-ninth birthday. It's not unreasonable to expect some signs of emerging maturity by now.

j07 Tue 22-Jan-13 16:52:23

FGS! twentynine isn't that old?! Give the kids a chance! hmm
