This is NOT news!

Todays Daily Telegraph has 2 photographs of Antonia De Sancha, one a studio type portrait taken in 1993, the other looks like a paparazzi type shot taken yesterday. The second picture could hardly be more unflattering if it tried. The photos take up around 1/4 of a broadsheet page.

Why? All there was to accompany the pictures was a 2 line piece saying who she was (i.e. ex mistress of David Mellor) and that she has since run a successful business.

This is NOT news, this seems just to be a snide way of focussing attention on someone because of the way they now look. She is not newsworthy today, there doesn't seem to be any valid reason for showing the pictures other than to infer that her appearance has altered and not for the better.

I have tried and failed to find a link, but someone else might succeed.

I know in the great scheme of things this is small potatoes, but it made me angry. angry

But...if you put up a link, wouldn't you be just as bad as the DT? confused

Bags Thu 31-Jan-13 16:19:34

Who is she?

Bags Thu 31-Jan-13 16:24:16

Somebody's mistress. I looked her up. It's the Daily Mail, is it not?

janeainsworth Thu 31-Jan-13 16:25:36

Daily Mail's version

Ana Thu 31-Jan-13 16:27:49

And the Guardian's take on it

Sad

My local paper keep giving free publicity to a woman who runs prostitutes in the area. I don't think it is news.
Her latest scam is a prostitution service for disabled people, masquerading as "therapy". Over the years they just keep giving her free editorial coverage. No point writing to the paper though is there...
There were also a couple of middle aged men who wanted to play golf a lot and thought they could fund it by "running an escort agency" . They got free publicity in the form of articles about them too.

No it is _not- news; it is a travesty of journalism.

whenim64 Thu 31-Jan-13 17:24:37

Spiteful, spiteful journalists don't know what to call them - gossipmongers?

How come they didn't seek out David Mellor to how us how he has also aged by a few years?

No-one is interested in rubbish like this.

Movedalot Thu 31-Jan-13 17:28:13

Well I'm fed up with hearing today that David Beckham is going to play a stupid game football in Paris. that's not news either.

Nonu Thu 31-Jan-13 17:39:43

Anything to keep in the public eye .

He has also a very pushy missus .

moon

Mishap Thu 31-Jan-13 17:54:37

All pretty pointless really - who's interested?

petallus Thu 31-Jan-13 17:55:22

I was quite interested in the de Sancha photos in a gossipy sort of way.

Every dog has it's day. Mellor has come off better, as you might have expected.

Also usually like to read about the Beckhams.

I'll get my coat!

Nonu Thu 31-Jan-13 18:04:07

Petal. you NOT off already ? gaffaw

Anne58 Thu 31-Jan-13 19:31:52

Absent & When It seems as if you have understood my point exactly, as indeed have others.

petallus each to their own! However I do enjoy my time spent in the queue at the supermarket looking at some of the magazines on sale and counting how many of the "celebs" featured I have actually heard of, and then how many of them seem to be only famous for being famous. Peter Andre, anyone?

I must admit to having a really strong desire to either slap Ms Beckham or creep up behind her and give her a damn good wedgie just to see if either action will make her face change from that glowering, pouty, chin towards the shoulder expression.

As my gran would have said "if the wind changes you'll stick like that my girl!"

merlotgran Thu 31-Jan-13 19:43:29

Aaah! But as my gran used to say, 'I wouldn't mind being a penny behind her in the bank.'

Nelliemoser Thu 31-Jan-13 19:47:53

I haven't heard of most of these celebs! What make it worse is most magazines just use their first names as all their readers are best mates with them.
If there is one thing in our society I cannot understand its this obsession with so called celebrities.

I cannot be the only one who does not give a damn!

Bemused!

Anne58 Thu 31-Jan-13 19:50:52

Nellie you are right! Again, the supermarket queue, a lot of first name only stuff, usually followed by lots of !!!!! I haven't got a clue, and to be honest I don't give a flying fig!

AlieOxon Thu 31-Jan-13 20:39:44

How come people get famous for being famous?

Also, I don't think sport is news. I wish they would report it separately!

Deedaa Thu 31-Jan-13 22:20:08

I love those supermarket magazines phoenix I never know who the people are or what shock, horror situation the headlines are referring to grin I suppose the people who buy them would never have heard of any of the people I read about. Don't knock Victoria though, a friend who is completely un starstruck (and had barely heard of them) tells me she and David are very nice people.

Sel Thu 31-Jan-13 22:44:59

No, it isn't news but it's printable. 'Celebrities' of one sort or another have always been around; a Norma Desmond moment, they just got smaller.

absent Fri 01-Feb-13 09:26:01

But there are hell of a lot more of them.

JessM Fri 01-Feb-13 09:56:38

My son said "who's Ang Sang Su Chi?" hmm

soop Fri 01-Feb-13 14:01:56

Ditto phoenix's eloquent comment.
On the other hand, Ang Sang Su Chi is in a different league altogether. flowers
