I've heard many first hand accounts of the brave work that these interpreters are doing. They are mostly highly educated men who took the jobs because they love their country and believed that working with OUR troops would help in the fight against the Taliban. There are only about 450 of them - and even allowing for their families joining them in the UK this is not a great number. They all speak excellent English and I believe would make a valuable contribution to the UK if allowed to settle here. These men will suffer inevitable reprisals if they cannot be resettled. According to reports, 20 interpreters working with British troops in Afghanistan have already been killed in action and dozens have been injured. A further five are said to have been killed while off duty. Shame on this government for turning their backs on these men.
